Schecter Owners Club, part 3

Hi I just joined today :)

Stiletto Studio 5. Only spent a few minutes with it so far but I think I might have found my forever 5 string. I had an SR650 with a high end I couldn't quite tame. Then I had an LTD B-1005MS but I've started to feel like multiscale is not a great idea for someone who wants to get better on my lifetime keeper, a fretless Carvin LB90.

My 2 Schecters -
Omen Extreme bought new.
Stargazer - bought off Craigslist for $160 as a project (passive, 2 J-Bass pickups, output jack running out of the bottom pot/knob hole.) Project - dropped in a Kent Armstrong MM (Korea) pick up; output jack returned to original position; new pots/Black Chrome Tele style knobs - separate volume for each pickup and single tone (bottom knob/pot not connected); left passive at this point - may re-add active electronics in the future.

Yep the STARGAZER is Bad-Ass ! Never really paid any attention to them until now. Doesn't seem to be many of them out there.
I searched and can't find any spec's on the beautiful bound neck. What is the width at the nut ???

Thanks, I was pretty happy to find it, even though I did have to put some more $ into it.
Width at the nut = 1.5" (38mm)
Neck is great.

I have that same Omen Extreme as well as a 2nd in Black Cherry. I think I have had them for about 3 years now, can't remember. I just gigged both of them this last Friday with a Genz Benz NEO PAK 3.5 and 2 UBER cabs. Powerful sounding basses.

Hi folks. My new (to me) Stiletto Studio 5 has a buzz I've not experienced in other basses. My house (and the pubs I play in) are infused with 60Hz EMI. My EHX Hum Debugger is good for eliminating the noise but I'm interested in stopping it at the source. What I find is that when I rest my thumb on the bridge pickup I get a strong hum. The hum is reduced a bit when my left hand is on the strings but it's still quite strong.

Any suggestions for grounding this or that as a means for managing the hum without moving my thumb or relying on the pedal?

ETA: pickup buzz when touched. help!!

I successfully installed a Darkglass Tone Capsule in my Schecter Stiletto Studio 5. The TC's pots are 3/8", so I had to widen the holes just a tiny bit. I was able to ream them out by hand with a 3/8" drill bit. The pots ride a little bit high because the extra nut supplied by Darkglass is too thick, and there aren't extra washers. An extra 3/8" locking washer in each position would solve that.

This bass originally comes with an Invalid Link Removed paired with EMG Hz passive pickups. The above picture shows the connector on the original EQ. White is input from the volume pot, black is ground (one ground line to the jack's sleeve and one to the ground points elsewhere). Green is the output to the jack's tip, red is 18V from the batteries. I used a row of 5 header pins inserted into the factory connector and soldered short wires to those pins. The other end of the wires go into the terminals on the Tone Capsule.

I do like the sound. I find the high mid adjustment more useful than treble. Boosting treble in a normal EQ just makes my teeth grind, while high mid lets me accentuate the clank I need in certain songs.

I feel like the bass still sounds a little nasal from around fret 5 to 15 on the D and G strings. EQ adjustments on the Tone Capsule are helping. The Invalid Link Removed's I have on the way from Reverb may help more. Or not, but either way it's fun to play with this stuff.

I've seen consensus that EMG40P5 is the way to go in both positions. I did try that but felt I was missing the ability to deliver a traditional bridge “Jaco” sound. I swapped a 40P5 into the neck position of my Carvin LB90 which, as it happens, had a pair of 40J's in there. Now they each have one 40J and one 40P5 as god intended and life is good. The J isn't as hot as the P5, so I've adjusted the pup heights accordingly.

tl;dr: Studio 5 + EMG 40P5 (neck) + 40J (bridge) + Darkglass Tone Capsule = BLISS

I'm really into the model T session both it's it's looks and sound, but at 830 euro it seems like quite the price. Can anyone tell me if it's truly worth the money? Not in a position for waste atm so of really like to know.
