Schecter Owner's Club, pt 2

Danny that is one nice California custom. It's not actually a custom bass but Schecter wanted the same feel of a custom bass in mass production so they made the california Custom series.

Personally I wouldn't pay more then $350 for one since they've been discontinued for a few years but I love that bass. I would definitely pick one up if I had the chance.

And sadly I haven't been around here in a while my Schecter brethren, I don't have my bass here in this little college doorm :(.

Oh...well, what to say. Since I'm apparently the manager around here, I'll retire your number/keep it on hold for you in case you pick up another Schecter later on.

And in general - if anyone who showed their basses on the last couple of pages wants a number, speak up...it's sometimes hard to tell whether it's membership request or simply showing the goods.

Not exactly a baritone, no. The baritone guitars have a different tuning. They do class these as short scale, 30 inch 6 string basses. There are 'megathreads' on TB regarding 6 string short scales. The first one has a bit of a bass / baritone guitar argument going on which is an interesting read :)

I just watched Pro Guitar Shop vid you posted elsewhere, and it does make more sense...kinda...

What's the string spacing? It looks rather narrow. And it definitely is pretty!

And I've seen that discussion on whether or not the other guy's is a bass or guitar, which is why I've been careful (shall we say) in what I've been asking.

Ok, so apart from working from a Major instrument retailer I also have a pretty ok collection of basses and have owned LOTS in the past. We got in a Schecter Raiden ( not sure which model is the one w/ the dual coils... elite? special? ) and I gave it a whirl and for the price point, this has to be better than anything else out there right now ( .. and I give props to the recent squier QC ). I could get a SICK humbucking bridge pickup "Tom Kennedy" tone as well as a very useable/versatile dual single coil slap tone from this guy. And after I was able to coax a faux P pickup tone from the neck pickup in humbucking mode and took a glance at the beautiful maple top, I couldn't believe the price point. If they were to come out with a even higher end model ( with a less cheesy headstock, 7 piece neck like the higher end Stilletos, and a maple or ebony option instead of the cheap rosewood ) for 2 bills more, I could see A LOT of Fusion/ R&B artist start endorsing it.. passive pre and all. Just wanted to share. :)

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what the spacing is. It is definitely quite narrow though so suits playing with a pick more than with the fingers.

I guess it is debatable whether it is a bass or a guitar... It looks more like a guitar, but is tuned and sounds like a bass... Generally the VI has been made famous by bass players rather than guitarists:

Jack Bruce of Cream
Robert Smith of The Cure (The album Disintegration is basically all played on a VI)
John Entwistle of The Who played one briefly
Noel Redding played one while he was with The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Stefan Olsdal of Placebo uses one
Mark Hoppus uses one for a couple of Blink 182 songs

And so on... The Schecter ones have a fantastic build quality and are quite cheap really. They are around the $600 mark in the US.

Unfortunately they have recently been discontinued :( They are still available through some dealers, but are getting harder to find as the weeks go by.
