Schecter - your opinions

I've been looking at upgrading to a 5string recently, and was in a shop with a sweet looking stiletto studio lefty.

So anyone own one or played one? They're a LOT cheaper than what I was looking at (EBMM Stingray).

I think for now I'll withhold telling what I'm looking for and just sound out your pros and cons on them. That way i get to see the best and worst of them rather than people just saying yes buy it or no don't.

So yeah...any quick capsule reviews? Pros or cons?

Schecter makes awesome bass guitars. I own two schecter stiletto basses. I have a schecter stiletto elite 5-string bass(2006 model) and a schecter stiletto extreme 4-string bass. both basses are in a black cherry finish and they sound awesome. they're no musicman stringray basses, but they are great sounding bass guitars. If you're thinking of buying one, I would say give it a shot. you might like these basses.

Since you've mentioned musicman stingray basses, schecter made basses that has musicman-styled pick-ups. those basses are the schecter raiden custom basses and the schecter raiden elite basses. the difference between the two is that the custom model has schecter's own style of musicman-styled pick-ups(they sound pretty close to emg pick-ups). and the elite model has emg musicman-styled pick-ups. if you're curious about schecter basses but do like musicman stingray basses, check out the schecter raiden custom and elite model basses.

I own 2 Schecter Basses , a 6 and an elite 4. I also have a Schecter Guitar. My opinions are based on what I own and not "here-say re-cycled Talk". The basses sound great ,look great. Each bass cost under $1000, so I guess as compared to a Ric($2150) or something else they are cheap. If I didn't already have a Fender P Bass V ($1499), I would look at a Schecter 5......You make up your own mind and have fun deciding.................

IMO they look nice. I mean compared to the stingray, I prefer the look of the schecters I've seen, just sleeker and less....traditional I guess. Plus, at least here in NZ, they are less than half the price of a stingray. This is mostly why I ask. And besides, the musicman may be, how should I say it.... more than I need in a bass right now. If that makes sense. I know it will do what I need it to and more, but the amount I play and the level I play it lead me to think I could settle for less. Having said that, I still want bang for my buck, hence the query.

Hey! A Kiwi! Awesome. I used to live In Auckland but moved over to Australia.
Yes, Stingrays are stupidly overpriced in New Zealand. Worse still, Rickenbackers are around $4k!
I think the Schecters are good value for money. The Damien, Diamond and Raiden series' are great, but I would skip the Stargazers - The tone was bland and build quality was not as great as the other Schecter's I tried.

The best are by far the Stilettos. Even the lower ends were great, but starting from the Elite series, the (Neck-Through), the build quality is amazing.

NZ Sounds is awesome for Schecter basses.

IME, Schecters can be hit or miss - I have a Hellraiser-4 that is definitely a keeper, but once bought a Stiletto Elite-5 and ended up returning it... Play 1st, then buy - and you can't go wrong...

I have looked at and tried Schecters in stores many times, and I have been seriously considering the Raiden Elite 5 as my next bass. What has kept me from pulling the trigger is the playing comfort of the 35" scale. I have CTS and developing arthritis in both arms, and that long reach bugs me. Someone younger and healthier, and/or with longer arms, probably would have no trouble with it.

I have just traded my Schecter Diamond Jazz bass away.Let me say it was probably just an old P-bass player trying to love a Jazz bass but it just didn't click for me. However this was a very well built, high quality mid range bass guitar with very nice hardware and I could tell that it would probably last a lifetime. Mine did have a few problems with fret buzzing at first , but after a bit of a set up and the addition of Chromes strings the buzzing went away and the action was LOW. It was a very nice looking bass also.Had it been a Diamond P-bass it would still be here.Hope this helps.

I like the stilleto eliete, plays great, sounds great, a lot of bass for the money. A bound fretboard cheap? Ok. The HZ's in them sound pretty good too, surprisingly good. A little less highs than std emg's , which isn't a bad thing. I ordered one when they first came out. Great bass but they clearanced euro Spectors for a few hundred more a couple of days after I ordered it. So it went back.

I did not like my studio 5. The body was very chunky, the neck was chunky, the B was incredibly floppy and it buzzed no matter how I set it up. The setup parts probably my fault. but I dont think im ever going to pick up another schecter because of that

I had a new stiletto 5 about 3 years ago: I thought their attention to detail was not very good. The paint job around the headstock looked like a poor masking job, the machines came loose (ALL of them) within a couple of months of purchase, 1 of the pots came loose, I was just not impressed.

I had a C5 and now my only Bass is a Diamond P 5 Custom. The build quality on both was/is great. The only reason I don't still have the C5 is that the string spacing was too narrow for me. The sound of both Basses is solid and full.

My D P5 Custom sounds as good as my Fender Am. Dlux. P Bass did, I sold it because of the Schecter, I wanted that sound in a 5er but couldn't drop for a Fender Am. Dlux. P Bass 5, I like that it's passive too, no batteries.

I like Schecter. If it feels good .. get it.

:D

My main bass is an Alembic Epic 4 I bought 17 years ago and haven't been able to find anything that tops it for me yet.
But I'm searching for a cheaper backup bass that will come close. I just picked up a new Ibanez SR500 to try but I'm not liking the skinny nut width or the overly active sound that I didn't notice till I got to try it through my rig.

I can still return it, so I'm thinking of trying a Schecter Stiletto Studio-4.
So what are some opinions on this Schecter?
