Schecter - your opinions

I have a Riot Deluxe 5, and I'm very happy with it, especially considering it was under $500. Good fit and finish, great neck, and the pickups and electronics are solid. The B string, while not the tightest you'll ever play, is nowhere close to floppy.

The only problem with the bass is the significant neck dive, and I've taken steps to correct that.

As far as tones go, that's kinda difficult to quantify. I use Chromes on my Riot, and between the onboard EQ and a couple of judiciously applied effects, I can get anything from some solid Motown thump to some nice 70s rock tones. YMMV

Here's my Model T. I'm pretty impressed with the quality for the money. Great P/J that would hold its own in about any gig.

I've owned two and played dozens. Still have one of them, and they were all fantastic.

-C-4 Elite - two-band EQ and EMG-HZs. Don't understand the complaints; plenty of tonal control, and a very clear, modern sound. Great "rock" or metal bass, but it warms up nice for other stuff. Neck feels *great*. Light and comfortable. Still have it and use it all the time alongside a Rickenbacker, a Dingwall, and a 1978 P bass, so it holds up to good company worth many, many times the asking price.

-California Custom 5 - KILLER value for money. Great fit and finish, awesome sound, incredible playability. Sold it on because it weighed a ton and I had to pay for a Dingwall.

The Stiletto Studios I've played have all sounded fantastic and played great; the 3-band EQ and Elixir strings are great too. The only variation is in weight; I've played some light ones and some utter boat anchors. The necks are big and slightly V-shaped and string spacing on the 5s and 6s is a little narrower, both of which are pluses for me. Killer value for money.

IME if a bass speaks to you when it's in your hands you should buy it no matter what the brand .

I totally agree. I own several high end basses but my favorite and go 2 basses are my 3 schecter model ts. They feel right and sound awesome. I have a Robert DeLeo (huge fan) model t in the mary kaye finish I picked up when I worked at guitar center that is amazing. With a few adjustments Schecter basses are really great work horses and are a huge value

What happened to the Riot? At one time it came in the natural color and was much more expensive. Now they come in blue or black and can be got for $349.00!

The Riot basically got turned into a budget model in 2011. The '09s were the natural-finish models, with neck-thru design, EMG-Hz pups and a top-load OR string-thru bridge.

The 2010s were basically the same except they came in high gloss see-thru finishes.

The 2011 is a bolt-on, has a different (cheaper looking) bridge, and has "Schecter Diamond" pick-ups. Also, it only comes in glittery blue or black.

I got my hands on a gorgeous '09 Riot back in February and it's my main bass now. If you can find any '09 or '10 Riots for a decent price, I highly recommend them (though I haven't played a 2011 Riot to compare).
