Schecyer Nikki Sixx bass

Not played one, not sure on looks, still considering getting one though. If I don't like it, I'll sell it.

Personally I idolise Nikki Sixx, he's the reason I started playing.

Ok so he may not be Jaco Pastorius but he's a very successful rockstar and business man. He's also Self-taught. He's loaded, he's clever and he's hot (maybe that's just me...)

And bland or otherwise, what he does clearly works- don't see you lot making millions, marrying models and having sig basses

Either way, I'd love to compare the Gibson sig and the schecter. I reckon the Gibby will win.

What amazes me is the fact that I've not being able to find a review for the bass other than from stores. It's like no one else is playing that bass. I hope Schecter releases a $300 - $500 version because I'm a big fan of Nikki and Motley but I'm not paying $1000.00 plus the case.

Well, I can admit to owning/playing one of these!

I got it for the pickup config; I have always been a sucker for the Thunderbird body and a P/J setup. It's as heavy as it looks, but decently well balanced (or as well balanced as it can be). Get some Straplocks, they'll help!

As for the tone - well, your mileage will vary wildly. With 2 volume controls, a pickup sweep knob, and an on/off toggle, you won't get a huge amount of variation out of the Sixx. I would call the tone muscular - plenty of low end with some nice definition in the mids and highs. In short, a very agreeable tone for hard rock/metal. Outside of that, you're taking your chances.

Fortunately, all my projects are metal or industrial these days, so for me it's been a good choice. ^_^

This bass did make me realize one thing..a Thunderbird looks better with a 2 on each side headstock.

Really not a fan. Here's what I don't get: If he uses the P bass for recording all the time, why not invent and XTREME METAL version of that with his sig, rather than this Schecter? Like, halfway between a TBird and an Explorer, as not to get sued?

My life force has diminished from gazing on this thing. It looks like it comes in a paper box with a see though plastic window and a hole for you to 'touch the action'.
You'd think he would still have some money for drugs left over. An abomination.

That's a wicked duo you have! I have a chance to grab an Epi blackbird locally and have been toying with it for a few days! Ugh. Can you tell me the nut width? I've never held one not played one and I've read different articles that say the nut is 1.5 and others say it's larger. Such a cool lookin bass and I'm sure the sound is just as cool. Thanks for your help!

THe nut width is 1.5. THe goth version t-bird has 1.75 width as is the burst model. I've played the blackbird in store. IT's nice bass, nice tone to it. Very simple. BAsically did the same mod to my goth bird. just wired everything to a killswitch

Thank you so much! I don't know why there are the conflicting reports. Maybe simply the mix up between the goth and the blackbird. Now I'm gonna have to go try this bass out.......now I'm excited!!!!

Enjoy it. My dad had the gibson blackbird and he said it was the loudest bass he'd ever own over the years of playing. Obvi it's a gibson, but who says you can't be loud with an epiphone version

I will be giving the Sixx one heckuva workout in April. One of the bands I play with will be playing one'a them rock and roll cruises, so not only will it be a test of tone, but durability, use with unfamiliar gear, multiple shows in a short period of time... will report back afterward!

I'm playing on the Cruise To The Edge, April 7-12, with the Pamela Moore Band. Allegedly the word is that they plan to put us and Queensryche in back-to-back timeslots, which I suppose makes sense! We'll see what happens...

And yeah, I am kind of excited.

I think the pickup configuration and headstock was a good move. The body shape isn't quite as cool as a t-bird, but the whole thing probably sounds and plays better, probably hangs alittle better too. The sunburst doesn't look too bad, though i think the center should be colored like the wings. I too thing the spector-birds were the coolest ones ever. The sunburst one.
