Schecyer Nikki Sixx bass

Nikki has played Gibson T-birds pretty faithfully for the last 20 years or so, and has (to his credit) proably done more to keep the Gibson T-bird in the public's eye than anyone else. So much so that a lot of "civillians" at my shows often refer to any T-bird I have as a "Nikki Sixx Bass". Who knows, maybe he just wanted to try something a little different and more Spector-ish, and couldn't work a deal with Spector. In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying my modded Blackbird. It's still the loudest and best sounding 'Bird I've ever played and has the thinnest neck out of all of them. This is the bass I'll run back in and grab when the house catches on fire...

Very Cool Gibson Blackbird, is that a Gene Simmons Ampeg in the background ?

Actually, Nikki always plays whats right for the song and if you actually listen, some of the bass lines and tones are pretty cool. You usually can't hear it very well though. Im not big on the schecter's shape but, I do like that they changed the electronics to what he was using on the hammer and specter birds. Also, the optigrab was there to hold onto because birds are SO neck heavy. This bass is more balanced and didn't need it. Im betting that the schecter is a actually a better playing, sounding and more wearable bass. The old blackbird just looks cooler. I've seen nikki live a few times and was right up at the stage. His live tone is pretty damn growly.

On his Facebook page he shows a line-up of his stage Schecters and they all have the Optigrab on em'.

Many artists wants their own signature, even if they already fell in love with some gear. I do understand that PS wanted a Flying V with single humbucker and reversed strat headstock, because he had no skills in buliding the guitars, so he just ordered one for him.

Same with "that little ****** who is a millionaire" - if he loved a T-Bird but couldnt stand the headstock and sounding, he just ordered something that fits him better. The series are mostly made for hardcore fans, who wants the same bass, that his idol owns, nor for professional players.

Thats all for me.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! the jealousy over the fact that this guy has made an enormously successful career out of music of which he's the principle song wrighter$ is hilarious. So he has chosen to play root based lines and simple fills rather than "slap", or play every note on a 10-string "bass" at once. the people that think HE when to Schecter for the $$ HAHA! I'm sure its 100% the other way around Schecter is the ones to gain the most. he's played everything from BC Rich, hammer, spector, gibson, ovation, warwick even p-basses. the guys been playing BASS for a LIVING for over 40 years and you guys still think he cant play LOL!!! we have no idea if he sits in his living room and jams along to Jamerson, Bootsy, or jaco...

either way, my hunch on him going with schector has to do with his long desire to give away basses during the shows right from the stage after using them and I'm sure the cost and slow gibson production would not work for that. so...

Say what you will, but he's still playing packed arenas and every strip club in the world plays their music. That's winning in my book.

Add to that his photography which is a whole new venture for him.

I'm not a fanboy. I do have his books and both of Sixx:AM's CDs. And love them. I went through my Sixx phase, playing T-birds and spiking my hair.

Sixx is a success. And that will draw the haters.

So I just got an email from Mötley's fan club (had to sign up to buy tickets a few years ago and now I get all the emails), and it seems that Nikki has truly gone the way of Gene Simmons.

They are now selling a special package that includes the bass (used during the show for Kickstart My Heart, a meet and greet to pick it up, and a pic with Nikki giving it to you.

Low, low price; $4995.00

My brain hurts.

To all those bashing Nikki:

Chances are, that in his 35 years of playing, he has picked up enough chops to leave pretty much any TBer in the dust. Just because he doesn't double thump and 10 finger tap on all his songs doesn't mean he couldn't, he probably just chooses not to as it wouldn't fit the song.

As for the bass:
It's okay. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. In fact, I'll withhold judgement until I actually play the thing. Which, given how many different basses Schecter makes and which ones actually get ordered by my local music stores, is slim to none.
