Geddy and Marcus are much better players...I agree...

however you couldn't be more wrong..

Rush has sold almost 40 million records world wide

Marcus Miller has been the bassist on over 500 records but your talking Jazz and R and B....much smaller group of people buy these records....his total records sales as a solo artist barely break the 20 million unit mark, at that is only because Renaissance sold six million units by itself...

in terms of sheer Branding POWER it makes much more sense for NIKKI SIXX to have a signature bass...than either Geddy or Marcus...lol

Hell Even bands Like Fall Out Boy have sold more records than Marcus has (as a solo artist)...and you will note Pete Wentz has a signature model as well..lol (one of Squiers best sellers..) and we all know Pete can't play right?..lol

Sadly it's not about how well you can play (talent) in the marketing business....it's about how many people you can reach and how many people know who you are....

walk up to just about any punk kid on the street and ask them who Marcus Miller is...you'll probably get a blank stare.....ask them who NIKKI SIXX is and you will likely get a response...isn't he that guy that dated Kat Von D? etc...

It's not entirely about marketing. It's about what is being marketed. You could put the best marketing agency on the planet behind Marcus Miller, and he won't sell any more records than he has. The kids/young adults who buy records aren't interested in Marcus Miller's music, and couldn't be talked into listening to it at gunpoint.

Think about this - It's 1989. You're 22 years old and walking down the street. You see 2 bars next to each other. One is playing Marcus Miller, the other, Crue. Which is gonna be a better time? Where do you think the girls are gonna be??

I doubt it. The usual "rule-of-thumb" is to double U.S. Sales. The U.S. is about 40% of the worldwide album market.

But, please feel free to post legitimate stats. Tiger Beat magazine numbers don't count. :D

was kind of excited for this until i saw a full pic, then i was a bit underwhelmed. it's cool that it's being offered lefty, but even then i wont go for it. the electronics, while good, are not what i want out of a t-bird or t-bird styled bass. i want dual 'bucker big bad bass tone. i have enough p-j basses. hoping gibson really is doing a lefty run of basses. i'd much rather fork out the extra cash for the real deal rather than a so-so lookalike.

every source i can find says they have sold 80 million worldwide..

lol you can argue all you want..between the SIXX AM Project, The Brides of Destruction and Motley...the man has sold a lot of damn records..lol

if your looking at just the stats for the six studio records...your missing greatest hits, and compilations...and singles

Motley alone has had in the U.S. seven platinum or multi-platinum albums, 22 top 40 mainstream rock hits, six top 20 pop singles, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and three Grammy nominations for Best Hard Rock Performance...

the bass is still bland

when it comes to market "tastes", there is no rule of thumb. A LOT of "western" movie stars/music/etc do way better sales in foreign markets, than they do in domestic.

and you contradict yourself by talking about blanket generalizations and then following that with asking for legit stats.

I'm not sure why you don't believe that they have sold that many albums. They were huge in the 80's and still relevant in the early 90's. In the 00's to present, everybody knows who they are. Also keep in mind that metal is WAY more popular in EU than it is in the US. Where are all of the huge metal festivals? Not here, that's for sure. Motley Crue has headlined a few of them.

I would extend that to cover the whole of Motley Crue's musical contribution. Sure they might sell bazillions of records, but then many bazillions of tins of Spam have been sold, and it is never going to be mistaken for real meat is it. :rollno:

Still, logical fallacies aside....

My girlfriend like MC quite a lot and likes it when I play Doctor Feelgood (the song not the dodgy pub rock band) on geetar. :ninja:
