Now that that's out of the way - I ASKED you to provide me with some backup for your claim that the RIAA doubles it's sales stats. Where is that backup?
First you claim that Crue has sold "only" 23.5MM records. You get called on that and you then claim that the RIAA falsifies it's sales numbers, DESPITE the fact that you used those very same sales numbers earlier. to back up your first point. Then, when asked to provide backup for an absurd claim, you counter with.... nothing.
I have to believe you're trolling here. Which is fine, I've done it. I assume your motivation comes from your taste in music, a hint of which is given out by your TB nom de plume. Ok... so you don't like hair metal. You think that Tony Levin is an underappreciated genius. You think that in a right thinking world, sales for Tony Levin would be 80MM, and Motley Crue's sales would be - I dunno, how many albums has Tony Levin sold?? 15,000? Anyway.... if you're going to throw out bold claims, make sure those claims aren't completely absurd. Otherwise, you look.. well... you know...

Schecters aren't overpriced. They're underrated. The bass in question probably plays and sounds great, but IMO won't be a market changer.
It just shows what total hos some rich musicians can be. He's swimming in money, has played T-Birds for quite awhile, and jumps to the first brand that offers a sig model and cash. The cash is just fluff. The sig model feeds his ginormous ego. Ho.
Even the Spector Rex is more attractive than that thing.

Yes. I wonder if Nikki will be seen onstage with this bass? I guess their next crap package tour (sorry, dislike those too) will let us know. I apologize if my earlier bash on Nikki for this seemed excessive, but my Gene and Paul comparo was sound on that. The fact that this bass is actually marginally spendy is surprising, as in the case of the Gene and Paul Danelectro and iirc, Washburn sig. models wer 200 dollar kindling you knew they would not be playing live...I even wonder if Gene uses the Corts he's endorsing now.
Gene sells two types of Corts:
The $$$ neck through models, and his budget bolt-on ones.
Live, he doesn't use the bolt-ons.
The Corts aren't the best basses on the planet, but with new strings, real EMGs and a setup, they are pretty good.

You seem to be the go-to-guy for record sales. I did find this, though:

So, your number of 15,000 records sold maybe a slight underestimation.

I'm not looking to get into it with you, but he was talking about Levin as a solo artist.
If you want to count all of the artists he has played with, you can bump up Nikki's total sales number too.
I find it interesting that one of the top things we are told as bass players is not to overplay, and play what is right for the song, yet when someone actually does this it is called bland...

I'm just going to ignore the first part.
I don't think anybody has a slobbering love affair with them here. I know I certainly don't. I just don't understand why you didn't believe that they sold 80m records.
It seems that every time Nikki Sixx is brought up, a flame war insues. Why the hatred? Envy? Jealousy? lack of knowledge? I don't get it. If Gibson, Ibanez, Schecter, Spector, or Hannibal Lector approached me about designing a signature bass with my name on it, I'm taking it. No, Sixx isn't the worlds greatest Bass player. (And I'll even point out that I think the bass that sparked this fight is ugly and I wouldn't own it) But what he is, is a very successful song writer and marketer. I get that people don't care for the Crue's music. No problem there. But I just don't get the hatred spewed toward a guy who has earned what he has. He paid his dues and has made a nice living as a musician, and continues to try and find ways to make money now that his old band is no longer relevant. So his bass lines are simple, big deal. It's not about "how difficult can I make this bass line?", to bring it up is to nit pick. He provided from a bass standpoint all the band needed. But he contributed in other ways. As mentioned before, he wrote most of their songs and it was his vision that turned Motley Crue into a world wide success. You may hate their music, but they sold a ton of records and still have a legion of dedicated fans. You may hate them as individuals, but you can't deny what he did for a group that spawned dozens of copy cats and rip offs that fell by the waste side and are currently in the "where are they now?" file. And at least you can say, they do have some talent. I guess I just don't see why Nikki Sixx invokes so much hatred among some bassists.
I just don't like that he has a sig model. to me it's like having a dee dee ramone signature. nikki does his job as a bassist and he plays competently(he doesn't suck) but listening to motley crue, I can't say his tone is very interesting, present or desirable. citing other bassists like pete wentz is a valid point,but Pete wentz doesnt have poorly contrived signature models with moronic features from several different brands.
also,in regards to his song writing, listen to "Wild side" and "too young to fall in love" and tell me that those aren't almost the same riff.
Sixx has been an influence on many - love him or hate him.

I just have to shake my head in disbelief when I read threads like this. It's just sad to read adults(?) arguing over a bass player/guitar.
There are bass players/bands that many members here consider gods that I can't stand to listen to for more than 30 seconds but you won't find me going to any thread about them bashing or being hateful. I say kudos to them, celebrate their success and have nothing but respect for them having a career that most of us will only ever dream about. Does that sound smug?...maybe. Oh well.
Maybe before people post they should step back a few minutes and think -is this adding anything constructive or is it just gonna make me sound like a jealous/petty/smug douchebag.

Well said. And I don't like the look of the new bass much at all. I won't be buying it, especially at that price.

It's because some bass players have guitar envy.Lol! Wait until it hits them that the most important thing about music is writing a good song, not noodling a million miles an hour or pretending they're playing a different instrument.

2x2 tuners make so much more sense w/ regard to reducing headstock dive.
P/J setup works for Wooten, Robert Deleo and thousands recording sessions since the 70s.
No inlayed signatures, upside down egyptian heiroglyphs, etc..
The lines look clean to me and the blackout color scheme is relatively current right now whether you're talking about SUV's, watches, basses..et al.
Now regarding Sixx:
I loathe Motley Crue, and I truly mean it. I can't stand that music.... at all. I'd rather rip my leg off and beat myself with it. But come on... how many songs have you guys (haters) written that strikes a chord in people?.... obviously, a lot of people.
