Double Bass scoop question

so as far as i know it the less scoop you have can make things feel alittle easier playing, and too much scoop can make things feel difficult, especially in the middle of the neck. my question is, what are the advantages of having more scoop (but not too much) as opposed to less?

I have two double basses and the one with less fingerboard scoop feels easier to play. I'm not sure what the advantage to more scoop is, but I would imagine you need a certain amount to avoid the strings rattling against the fingerboard.
