I think that they idea is to ensure a solid connection, perhaps help fight vibration issues, and to keep them from coming loose in transport. At least, this is my presumption as to why they are used.

Shane at British Audio Service may be able to get you some.

Well, seems like I need these caps very urgently.

We had a gig (our first abroad) last week. Everything went fine. The V8 is, like always, transported in the back of the bands van and I think it got bumped somehow...

... One of the KT88 power tubes had jumped out of its socket... :eek: The tube was laying on its side next to another power tube. Lucky enough the tube wasn't broken or anything. I plugged it back in its socket and the amp worked just fine like before.

Anyway. I think I need those caps really fast. We gig a lot and I don't want to arrive at a gig with some broken power tubes.

Wow, that sounds like a close call! Have you contacted Shane? Does he have the retainers in stock? This is probably an example for us all to live by, so if anyone else does not have these retainer clips, you may want to either look into picking some up, or at least take a smoother ride to the gig! :p

I'd like to have one too to replace my two Peavey 410TVX cabinets...

Alright people. I've got my V8 for a year now and I must say I still love it a lot. It performs just with plain beauty, night after night. I played over twenty gigs with it and everyone seems to love it (and the sound) too. :bassist:

The only setback is the lack of 'bass' in the 2nd channel. The overdrive sound of this channel is magnificent but it just lacks balls...
So, you other V8 owners, what have you done to decrease this bass-loss?

So here's another picture: USA glamrocker Adam Bomb and his band performing over here in Belgium (we did support). The rest of the band used our backline.

My distortion setting (which I use the same for clean) has become somewhat strange, yet seems to work for me.

12'oclock on bass, mids full (left in), treble 9 o'clock. BRIGHT switch engaged.

I'm pretty happy with the sound. It's not fat/thick vintage SVT style, but it's different and fills my band well.

I also use my sterling with bass up a bit, and the bass on that can be pretty powerful.

For what it's worth, I really feel that 15s are great speakers with these heads. I have a V6 (which I love) and it sounds Hee-UGE through a 2x15 cab. I know a lot of folks on this board generally prefer 10s, but you can really move some air with those 15s. It's a great rock tone.

Now you've got me curious: anybody know how many V6s they made? And why do those two amps looks so different? I kind of prefer the look of the V6 without all the metal grille and all that. I wish it came in just a plain head- like a Hiwatt or something- but it sounds so great i don't mind combing weird crap out of the carpet on the head. That sounded vaguely dirty, didn't it?
