I was surprised he had so many P basses and his categories of basses where quite limited. I think your explanation of why is a good one. Nonetheless, what do you think of the possibility that he has P basses because of their reputation as studio instruments and he too is a studio musician. He seems to push the idea that P basses are the ideal studio instruments often.

I like him too, but he is a Youtu be star. When I compare his subscribers to others, and some big names are included, I'm surprised how far ahead he is. I think a cool take away is 'look how much a bass player is a celebrity!' Not to to take away from his chops. He has more skill than me, and more charisma. But is is not exactly because of his bass skill.

Well, he took the neck of the Moolon and put it on the body of his custom shop P-bass because the one that came with the P-bass was too thick and wide. So then, when he pulled out the Moollon later, the Precision neck was on it.

Yes, but for some, myself included, the maker's name is fine, but for some reason any endorsing artist's name that prominent on the headstock seems a little too much even if it's a signature model. At least Geddy Lee's Fender bass has his signature on the back of the headstock. It's a minor quibble mind you, I love Sire basses and Marcus Miller is one of my favorite bassists just don't want to appear like too much of a fan. lol

Well, you have to remember he had the final say on what those basses looked like, the electronics on the the neck and everything. They gave him the bass and he said, I like this, this, and this, but you need to make this like that. And he went around and around with them about the EQ preamp in it to get the sound he was looking for. So it's not just that he says, "this is a really great bass and I like it and recommend it". He actually decided what that bass needed to be and they built it to his specifications.

So it doesn't bother me at all although, I haven't bought one and probably won't be buying one. I am very happy with the Jazz Bass I've been playing for the last 35-years. Perhaps I might consider a 5-string Sire????

So what's wrong with saying "gosh darnit"? Is it an American thing? if so maybe he doesn't get the significance as he's English.... So what's the deal, now people can get canceled for using uncool catch phrases?

He actually took The Lord’s name in vain, and some people got offended by that apparently.....those cats definitely need to stay away from the Booby Vega videos then...:laugh:

Maybe partially due to that, but I think it has more to do with the fact that they work so well with the tone he's pretty much trying to get out of all of his basses - choked off, muted, tone rolled down neck pup tone. He's going for that smooth groove most of the time. P bass with flats is perfect for that.

The reason people say "gosh" and "darn" is to avoid blasphemy by not saying the other two words. This somehow makes it ok, but I'm not really convinced that it does. I have not been baptized but swearing and cursing when it's uncalled for (like it is in most Youtube videos) grates me the wrong way. In any case, I avoid Scott not because of that but because of the bro attitude.

Per thread topic: an impressive collection, but, like everything with that guy, to me it seems forced. I'll stick to my usual Youtube bass personalities, of which Dr Cheese is one. He might currently not have Scott's, er, chops (sorry, Dr Cheese - neither do I), but I get to hear the instrument and the playing without the pointless banter.

The flats is something he has taken to lately He has always been a roundwound guy (see at 7:12) and talk down flats (9:30) in this video from 2017. Back then it was all about that raspy sound....



I guess he is like all of us, most of the time we are conservative in what we play and like. But from time to time we like to try out new things and find it good until we tire and go back to old ways. The flats on his P-bass are gone before 2021.

I've been using his videos (subscription & free) for several years now. He has posted some really good info. It does blow me away how he goes through basses (giveaways, etc) - but I agree with above, I'm sure he gets a lot of gear for free/at cost.

...oh to be an internet music personality... :P
