That's a great series and my Finnish wife and both looked at each other laughed. I love the Finnish language.

It was indeed a good show - watched it too. I don't speak a lick of Nordic languages but they sound fascinating to me, so I keep the original audio and read subtitles. I think Sorjonen is the ultimate functional weirdo, it's probably why I enjoyed the show so much.

As a Christian I follow the Bible and do not care what non believers think of me. I can only pray in the last day your a Christian. I still do not care to watch Scott's videos on basses. Same lip service different bass.

I'm ok with Scott, he has some good approaches to things at times that I have been able to use in my own practice/playing.
And, as a dedicated 4 string player, I like it that he (mostly) uses 4's

I've really enjoyed Scott's videos, but does it seem to anybody else like he's getting increasingly hyper in his delivery lately? It almost seems like somebody told him he needed to bounce off the walls more often and raise his speaking voice by an octave to get/hold people's attention. He seemed more low-key in the past.

And the hyper delivery is why I stopped watching.

I think that it may be a reaction to him recording videos by himself because of the pandemic. He needs to do some Zoom interviews or features some guest videos where he just introduces someone covering a topic.

It was a tend long before COVID. I'd stopped watching before. Where is his g.d. English reserve?

The point is the product he's selling. Maybe he should adjust his technique, but it seems to have worked for him so far. Now he has much more competition. I put up with his sales pitch sometimes to hear some of the players, and might enroll just to listen to Gary Willis for a few hours.

Boy have you ever nailed it with the above.

You even get that in some of his bass academy presentations although he’s tightened those up considerably of late. But his stuff on YT is mostly annoying. I wish he’d take a cue from someone like Rick Beato, Adam Neely, Paul Davids, or Janek Gwizdala by dropping the glad handing and cut to the bloody chase once in awhile.

Give me Jeff Berlin any day. He may not be “cool” but he can piss rings round most people.
Actually, I really like his un-coolness, because it sort of highlights just how good he always is.
I also like his “it’s not about the bass” attitude. He’s never owned a shedload of them.

Not a Jeff Berlin fan myself for reasons not germane to this thread, and not worth getting into in any event. Suffice to say he has his admirers and I have no issues with that.

For the most part I agree with people’s comments about Scott’s YouTube content. I will say I think his on site education material is on point. There are some great content focused on the fundamentals of theory, neck knowledge, navigating changes using arpeggios in all inversions etc. there is also useless for fun content, a lot of it.

regarding his bass collection I think he is for sure thinking about what his viewers want and gets more like but also just enjoying the fun of having access to these great instruments, maybe getting discounts, at the least a tax break off the gross of his business which is a significant discount itself.

But seriously, nobody posted anything where the lords name was actually taken in vain and the first person to mention that the OP's subject, Scott, had said it, was someone we can assume was a christian. So the person who opened the discussion, is actually the person who posted the original profanity, if any profanity was posted at all?

In general, I enjoy Talkbass, but.... So is it OK for someone to post how they've canceled (to use the modern vernacular) someone for an apparent profanity, but not OK for others to discuss that persons reason, or comment on it?

Maybe the Jehovah scene is appropriate after all?

Like I cringe when people get sanctimonious about personal beliefs.

I enjoy some of Scott's videos, but get put off when he dials up the smarminess. He's a very competent bassist, but when every other ad on youTube is Scott giving something away if you'll sit through a 20 minute video reminds me a bit of the high pressure tactics employed by Timeshare salesmen.
