View attachment 4608006 I just saw on Facebook he passed. I have no other information. The post was not mine, but I did not share the person’s name here for obvious reasons.

I just found out this morning. His catalog was insane.

I had visited his website a couple times here and there and noticed that his phone was listed. It's kinda goofy, but I had half-thought about calling him up out of the blue and telling him what an inspiration he was. But it felt too invasive and my nerves got the best of me, so I never did.

According to his website he played on it. I haven't been able to find anything to the contrary yet but who knows?

Yes, and that descending passage he plays at 0:50 (and again around 2:00) always knocks me out, no matter how many times I hear the song. Such great taste. That tune is a masterclass in how to play bass on a great soul/RnB tune.

I always associate that type of line with Jamerson, this guy was great, love this type of bass playing.

Bob, I agree wholeheartedly.

I've often thought he was closest to Jamerson stylistically than perhaps any other soul/R&B/pop bass player of the time. I LOVE his playing.

Check this out. One of my favorite Scotty Edwards outings. Very much in the Jamerson mould. He could lay it right back when called for, but man, this is off the chain. Absolutely my favorite style of bass playing.

Yes, I remember that tune and love the bass playing, unfortunately I've never been in a band that has even approached that style of music. I grew up with this stuff, Motown etc, along with McCartney and that whole British invasion style which I also love and feel deep down but it's the soul and R&B players that I feel were the best players and still give me new heights to aspire to.

A beaut, takes me right back to 76...As a young teen I was immediately impressed by these session guys, they were so musical and tight....they all inspired me to take up bass.....A real fun tune to play along to.

So I'd never heard of mr Edwards, but I was listening to my (extensive) collection of disco, and his bass line on The Four Tops' "The Show Must Go On" sounded worth figuring out.
