What can i do to keep the screws in my bass from rusting, i.e. in the pickguard? I can also see some rust starting to develop on the metal of the pickups.

Lightly sand your pups with wet/dry 800 grit or finer then put a drop of superglue on the bare metal

1) mix up some vasaline and graphite (scraped from the middle of a pencil) to make a really good lubricator. Then coat the threads of every screw that will move on your bass (not the neck bolts!)
2) Adjust your pole pieces so that their height is equal to the radius of the fret board (if adjustable) then cover the tops of your pieces with some clear nail varnish.
3) to clean rust, use strong cotton bud and lighter fluid.

Is it fine to just replace the screws? Mine are starting to rust (The bass is second hand, but I love it all the same), and I'd like to replace them. They're the screws on the pickguard.
