It makes no difference, the tone out front will be whatever the FOH guy wants it to be. Between a speaker system that goes two octaves lower than the backline and EQ up the ying-yang all you can do is hope that he's got a clue. The bad news is that, even in the top ranks of pro-touring, when it comes to the bass most don't.

What I meant is that I won't be hearing things that he is. I might be sending him a harsh, hissy, boomy signal while my stage sound is round and tight due to the rolloff of the cab ... you're right on the money about sound guys though

Quite true. That's why my preference is for full bandwidth neutral cabs capable of the same response as the PA. That way my tone is defined by my bass and my amp, not my speakers, and I can send a post EQ direct send to the board that will put the same sound in the PA as what I have on stage. But only if I threaten him with Tasering his 'nads if he even thinks about making it sound 'better'.
