Update
Since I got my Sei Jazz back in September last year, it's spent a lot of time in house, just noodling with mates and stuff, but now I have a new gig, so the last month or so have seen it used as intended!
It has been great, the sound is good (although I think a better pre would be even better) and it's sooo playable, amazing basses! I'm playing through an EBS TD650 with an EBS Neo 2x12, will probably add another 2x12 at some point cos this gig is loud, and I want something that will project a bit nearer my ears!
I'm using fretless as well, currently a bass collection 5 string Jazz, but always on the lookout for a better 5 string lined fretless, I should have bagged the matching Paul Turner Sei when it was on E-bay a few months back
The band is called The Logicals, these guys play some good, high profile gigs and some good support slots, they are turning some great stuff down right now whilst I get my teeth into the set. There's a lot of influences in here, ranging from the Stones, sex pistols, weller and the Clash, the result is, errr, dunno how you would describe it, rock, in one of it's many forms I guess. What is cool is that they are letting me put my mark on a lot of stuff and its working well, still keeping it simple where it needs it but having the chance to really dig in with the Sei in some parts
We also often get joined on stage by Aziz Ibrahim, co writer of Stone Roses / Ian Brown material and a mighty fine guitarist, which should be cool!
I got a week off now, going down Cornwall to surf, kitesurf and see my parents
Need to do some work on the Sei when I get back though!
A few weeks back I changed the battery and after fitting the new battery, I had no sound, turns out the live from the battery box had come detached. Removed offending box along with control plate, during which time another wire became detached (better to have this happen now, I think!) so out came the soldering iron and a speedy repair was made. It's still not right, the Bart' circuit packs a lot of stuff onto the plate and I know I have caught a wire between the body and pate, hence the earth problem, which only occurs when I touch the plate.
Going to check everything out when I get back, would prefer a JE pre on the plate though, so much more tidier!
Regarding a JE pre, I spoke to John a few weeks back, and he was looking at this for me, he is trying to incorporate what I currently have onto one of his pre's. I have both p/ups coil tapped on this bass, not sure weather to keep that or not! To be honest, I'm forever checking which position the switches are in cos they are very easy to knock when accessing the controls. I also need a switch of some description for the LED's along the edge of the neck.
