Sei Owner's Club (Part 3)

Yep, my old bass too, hence my username. It's a tremendous bass, insanely comfortable and great to play (and yes, the neck is very, very slim). I miss it a lot, but sadly having recently moved house I won't be buying it back anytime soon. It's definitely one of the sweetest basses I've ever owned though.

FWIW Alex had a few Kingbasses himself IIRC.

hi from hamburg,
this sei jazz 5 now resides in germany and I love it, so I guess I'm in. :hyper:

anybody knows some history?

@krysh - I love the simplicity of your bass. It's gorgeous :D

Quick update on mine ... looks like it's going to arrive just in time for my band to fall to bits, with not much prospect of a new gig at the minute. :crying:

oh, sorry 'bout the bad news on the band, but then you got more time for your new seibass. ;)

and thanks, thats exactly what caught my eyes first when I saw it. but it sounds and plays even better. :D

I just bought it through basschat. talkbassmember catwig1 seemed to own it for a while, but unfortunately didn't reply my message.
does anbody else know some history about my sei?

Well things might be taking a little turn for the better on the gig front for me. All very embryonic at the minute but better than nothing.

It's exactly 1 year and 2 days since I put my order in and I was just thinking "man it's been a long wait". Then I stumbled across the Darrin Huff support group thread and well ... some of his customers have been waiting over 9 years!!! Having read all 40+ pages of that thread a little over a year doesn't seem so bad. Given the 12-14 months I was quoted on ordering I think mine is probably slightly ahead of schedule.

You're not alone... I've yet to play my new fretless with a band. I've only actually had a chance to plug it into my big Markbass rig once. I think I'm going to bide my time and wait until we go back to the UK to join a band again. There's absolutely nothing worth doing musically in my neck of the woods. I suppose it at least gives me time to get my fretless chops up to scratch. :(

Firstly, hope all of you had a great Christmas and Santa brought you lots of nice bass-related things. :D

Anyway - Sei watch alert. Did anyone see the Christmas edition of Top Of The Pops today? There was a lady playing a rather pretty 4-string Sei Flamboyant with The Wanted. :)

No, I've never seen a Sei on TV either...:hmm:

BTW, Got my Sei fixed now, it needed a new "Seymour" Pre-Amp installing. A very nice chap at work who know's how to drive an oscilliscope, proved it down to a fauly 8-pin op-amp on the cct. board.

So she's up and running now and sounding good too, needs a fair bit of eq'ing, but still sounding nice for a 19 year old.

I've seen several actually; John Thompson's Original has made appearances on Jools Holland (live with Soul 2 Soul; it sounded unreal, one of the best clean bass sounds I've ever heard), TFI Friday (Jamelia) and TOTPs (Eternal). Oroh Angiama's Sei Jazz has been on a few things (including Live Earth IIRC with Corinne Bailey Ray), saw Midge Ure's band on something once and his bassist had a Sei. Whatever the band was that did "I'm Not An Addict" (blonde girl singer), their bassist (I think Martin told me who he was once - he had dreads) had a lovely Sei Flamboyant six, looked like possibly spanish olive facings with a maple board - think that was on MTV. There may have been more I can't remember.
