Im good thx and that day out was cool it had been a good ten years since i visited blackpool and it had'nt changed much apart from all the chav's and stagg/hen party piss heads falling all over the place hehe ;)

glad to hear you got the rick you where after sounds like it pushed all the buttons that the sei didnt ;)

Yep i've started to build my own basses as i thought it would be fun to try first one came out way better than i expected so i started a second

i mainly sold the sei because i was'nt playing out much and it was to good for just jamming with friends so id rather it go to someone like howie who's gonna get more out of it that & i needed some funds for a trip downunder which is planed for later in the year as a fact finding trip as im considering relocating myself to OZ in the near future

Steve, you've got Blackpool nailed all right! That's why the locals don't go out there all that much....:spit:

The CS is my 2nd; I sold the first when my back problems started and later regretted it, especially when I found out how much they were going for! Got my 2nd (a player, a bit knackered) with the proceeds from the Sei; I love a good Ric (there are many not so good ones), and now have 3, although one is moving....for another! I liked my Sei and would be happy to own it again, but it wasn't right; there were definitely several things I'd change. I've learned a lot since then.

Those basses are amazing! :hyper: I loved the first; but the second is absolutely spectacular. If that thing plays and sounds half as good as it looks I want one!!! I LOVE the design, BTW. Looks fantastic. It also looks like I may be picking your brain if I ever get round to building something....

Best of luck with the Oz trip. I have a friend who's going next month. I have relatives over ther, as does the missus, and her family keep talking about going over. From what I've heard, relocation would be nothing but a good thing. Just make sure that second bass heads my way, ok?;)

Im starting to get a little frustrated now, as there is no news of any further work on my bass. I know the Pickups have been there 2 weeks, but Alex says there is nothing to tell me... when I spoke to Martin last he said the basses usually take around a week to finish off.

Help?

Ask to speak to Martin and he will give you the news on your baby. Alex works the shop and although extreamly helpful, sometimes does not know the most uptodate information on the various builds.

I would say also that Martin will not delay any bass unnecessarily but if a person comes in wanting urgent work done on a bass for a gig that night then Martin would I expect do that which would push all other work back a bit. I had my 2 basses built knowing this and accepted it because one day it might be me needing the urgent work.

Mistahbenn, welcome to the 'joys' of custom made basses! :rollno: I'm afraid Martin is very very busy at the moment, so there is little we can do but wait (I’m with you as I wait for the SEI 8 that is suffering exactly the same delays). It’s not easy (:help:), but there is some truth in the expression ‘the best things come to those that wait’ (next week makes it 12 months I’ve been waiting) and it will seem so worthwhile when you finally get your bass (just ask 7String, Paddy etc.) :bassist: . Hang in there...:cool:

Yo Mistahbenn - I can sympathise :(.

Problem is I know for a fact Martin is incredibly busy at the moment. Martin called me a week ago to talk about the LEDs on my fretless build, very simply if he needs info he'll call else he'll just get on with it.

Just because you don't hear doesn't mean nothing is happening. I remember getting frustrated that nothing appeared to be happening in my 1st build and little info was forthcoming. I turn up for a coffee and a chat and turns out there was massive progress!!!!

  1. He could very easily spend all his time on the phone and not building anything
  2. He never thinks a build is fit to show a client until it's finished - he's a perfectionist (and that's a huge reason why he builds mine :))
You just got to sit back, relax and be patient. He won't keep you waiting any longer than he has to. Mind you waiting is half the fun - the anticipation for my 1st Sei built a bond between me and my Sei, I've seen it grow from planks of wood to a premier instrument. I've found my bass heaven.

Believe me, it's so worth the wait - keep the faith bro, the 1st time you clap eyes on the finished product and hit that 1st note. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Thanks very much for the support guys! I know that when I lay my grubby hands on her, it will be hard to take them off again. Now Im smiling again like a cheshire cat! I am so glad I can moan at someon (You guys) and get some good feedback.

One good thing is that Ive found a decent buyer for my Lakland who is happy to wait until my Sei is built before I deliver the bass to him, which means all gigs coming up I dont have to play a f***er or some plank. :)

I'm just lurking around enjoying the banter and the pictures, but I thought I'd be silly not to chime in on a trip to Australia.

Have a go, but IMO, you'd be silly to come all that way and not stop in NZ for a bit. I'm not a homer either- I'm an American who's lived in NZ for a few years and spent a good deal of time in Australia- who knows when you'll get back again and NZ is definetly worth seeing.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming- lovely basses.

+1. Seems strange that waiting can be fun (:eyebrow:), but Paddy is right...anticipation (not expectation) is good and there is nothing like seeing some rough sawn planks of wood being transformed into a world class bass. :bassist: :bassist:

LOL- good stuff.

It's certainly worth seeing and the nice thing about NZ is that you can see TONS in 2 weeks. Size wise, it's perfect for sightseeing. You'll have a tough time seeing the Gold Coast in Australia in 2 weeks!

I spent 6 months in Oz a few years back - bought a car and went surfing every day - wonderful time. Also got a lot of gigs - far easier to pick up work than here in the UK!!!

I also remember all the "Visit Middle Earth" posters for New Zealand. I always thought it would be cool to go there, especially as I had relatives there - until they relocated to Geelong just outside Melbourne!!

What time are you thinking of going down? I've got a pretty free day tomorrow and I've been meaning to go to see Martin... my Sei is in need of a decent setup. :D

Plus, I need to talk to Martin about ideas for my new Sei. :hyper:

I hope to be at the Gallery at about 12.30 and will have to leave at 2.00pm at the latest and it would be good to meet if at all possible. However much depends on my transport from Somerset and the time it arrives at Victoria Coach station. If the coach has any delays then I won't be going to see Martin:( .

Mistahbenn, yes this is Alex of The Gallery and he’s pretty nifty at that Mark King type stuff.
