Doesnt just any type of camera count?
Like someone said i think it's what you do with the selfie that matters more. i've taken pics of myself before, i've not shared them on social media.
To be honest i mind a selfie as much as i mind someone taking pictures of every meal they eat to share on FB, or taking pics of what their baby is doing every half minute (but not cats though, you can take all the pics of your cats you want, i dont get tired of cats, i'll probably think you're a crazy cat person sure, but i'll still enjoy the pics) I just hate the idea of sharing every trivial moment of your life with everyone, and selfies tend to fall into that. Its about oversharing. Some selfies are justifiable (say you just met your favorite musician and there's no one else to take a pic of you two), most aren't. And one or two selfie of you is one thing, 400 is another.
Also, the selfie is sometimes for a lot of people because thats the only way they can truly control what they're gonna look like in a pic. Ever noticed some people are only truly ever good looking when they're taking the pics themselves? hmm.... cherry picking the best of like 30 pics, best angle, best lighting. Your friend is not gonna wait until you have all those nailed to take the picture. Of course, that is kinda called lying (though thats what celebs do..except with professional photographers)
That's the difference between a selfie and a self-portrait. The selfie is made with cellphone camera lens which is almost always a wide angle and held no further than your hand can hold it. That gives it a certain look. Combine that with the fat girl holding the phone above her head so you can look down her cleavage, and that she has to tilt her chin up to face the lens, thus minimizing her double chin, and you have a selfie.
