Series speaker cable ?

I must be missing it! I cant find a series speaker cable at any of the big web sites (GC, Musicians friend). Is this something you have to have made for you?

And just so i am clear i want a cable to connect two 8ohm cabs for a 16ohm load.

You'll have to make it - this is not a common enough item for someone to mass produce.

Just watch your polarities when you wire them up.

One plug that goes in the amp with 2 "legs" on it. Tip from amp lug to tip on one cab. Sleeve from amp plug to sleeve on other cab. Remaining open tip and sleeve on cab plugs connected together.

You can make a box for this too, where you just use regular speaker cables to run in and out of the box.

You can make one up real cheap. Use a weatherproof, small electrical outdoor junction box from the hardware store. Drill holes for three 1/4" jacks. Few inches of some scrap wire or old lamp cord, some solder, and you're there.

Regular speaker cable from the amp to the 1 "in" jack. 2 regular speaker cables from the 2 series connected "out" jacks to your 2 cabs.....real simple.

Yeah, Fuzzy has some "off the beaten path", at least in modern times low watt tube amps and a Kustom rig or 2, some of which require series connections to chain along more cabs.

I think he had to reload an old 8ohm 215 and had to end up with a 4ohm 215, something like that.

my cable was less than the 3 high quality cables I would have needed to interconnect a series box.

I loaded my Kustom with two 4ohm speakers and wired it series for a 8ohm load to play with both the Kustom head and my tube amps.

I am now in the process of getting a second Kustom 2x15 that is unloaded. I will load it with the same speakers and wire it to 8ohms.

So i can use both cabs with the Kustom head for a 4ohm load and get all 100watts out of it through 4 15inch speakers

Then use a series box and use the same cabs with my Ampeg B25 and run a 16ohm load. So i would get 55watts of tube butter through 4 15inch speakers

I just cut part of the printed circuit inside the Kustom 8Ω PA cabs I had and converted them to 16Ω in series for an ancient Peavey PA cab -combo PA unit.

I shouldda thought about a series/parallel aux box. That's just great 0 now I gotta re-solder the trace I cut and restore the cabs to parallel like they were.

Ah well - live and learn a little.

I'm a big fan of old Kustom gear. This threats makes me happy.

I built a series Speakon junction box, 2 inputs become one output. Cost me about $25 CDN at a local electronics supply store. They had little empty plastic boxes at the store, I drilled out a couple holes and mounted the jacks inside. I had them wired in series. I also made mine with speakon NL4, which is the standard on cabs and can handle bi-amping.

The thing works like a charm but I don't find myself using it because my 2 cabs are different resistance, I will get a power head and run them parallel if I ever need to run them both.

If you just want to buy my box off me PM me, mind you if your good with your hands it is easy to make yourself and cheaper, shipping over the 49th kills.

I can PM you the threads I had where people gave me wiring schematics for making a series speakon cable if you want too.
