Bass parts will be played by me, a guitarist, for a recording project in Allman Brothers style. Using a P bass with passive electronics; going direct for recording if possible. Am I splitting hairs, or will there be much of a difference for this application? What about gigging (this possiblity may not be very likely....); I have an Eminence 15 I found by the side of the road, the fine folks in Ky say its a bass speaker, and a no-name 12 with an f of s of 5 that came to me as a replacement in a Peavey Bandit (!?)

Either will be “fine” with a properly designed speaker/cabinet. It becomes taste and preference at that point.

I had both amps at the same time 12 years ago. Go with the SWR for the tone and for the ability to blend the signal from the effects loop should the project or a future one call for it.
Now, since you mentioned that you were a guitarist, I eventually used the Sessionbass as a clean platform for doom (with a fuzz/distortion running in front). As I recall, I don’t think I’m the only one that has done so either.
