They actually feel a bit lighter than the JFs to me, though I've only tried those on a longer scale bass. So yeah, sounds like they won't be up your alley

Thanks for the additional info...:thumbsup:

That's going to be one of "those" strings that I love listening to other people play on their basses, but wouldn't tolerate on my own for more than 3 minutes, regardless of how much I liked the sound.

I just found out that the window insulation is to soft to stand. Then my daughter had a great idea. Chalk board eraser. That should be strong enough to stand. So long as they still make them like when I was a kid. Should be able to cut the felt out from them. I am not going to find one today. But probably on Tuesday. I will let all know.

You could always try them on your Dingwall or your Quake. :cool:

Came with TI Jazz Rounds installed (first time playing those, I'm more of a flat person). Surprised how bright this bass sounds even with the neck pickup soloed and the tone knob all the way down! E string is a bit weak, but I think that's because the silk wrap by the ball-end is over the saddle on that string.

I know it's common to mod these, but for the time being it's gonna stay stock though I will either cut the silk or change the strings to see if that's the cause of the weak E string. It plays super easy, feels very well put together, and I'm looking forward to a lot of fun times with it.

Ok boys and girls. Standard original FELT chalkboard erasers $3.99 at most office and school supply stores also online at the usual spots work perfectly well for the Gibson Under Bridger Mute assembly but does need trimming. The assembly were included starting in 1965 and discontinued with the 1969 slot head EB3. They only were used with the 2 Point Tune O Matic bridge that came with the EB0,EB2,EB3, GRIPPER, and a few more that escape me (my apologies). So far Chalkboard erasers have been my only success, with trimming. The part number for the mute itself is Gibson: HR750B.

That's some great news...:thumbsup:...I do have a mute without a felt - no bass for it at the moment but who cares - so I guess I'll follow your steps.

Just for the sake of historically correct info: the mutes first appeared with the "bar" bridge somewhere around '63-64 and were discontinued with the introduction of 3-point bridge in early '73. Some "slotheads" actually sported factory mutes. The Ripper was only available with a 3-point bridge so the mute was not an option on them. Epiphone models from the same era used them as well, prior to the production getting moved to Japan in 1970.

Hmmm. I wonder why the site I obtained that info included the Ripper. This is not the first correction I have come across with that site. This thought is directed at that site only not towards any one else or by way of argument. But then as we all know Everything is true on the internet!

32" scale 5 string SG bass … I added an extended so I can use a long scale low B

I worked with parts on hand

Also I was going for a frankensteined look

I love that it looks like a guitar detuner
