Something unexpected today....A friend showed up with a bass I sold him years ago that I had offered to buy back. It's a bit rough, and it's not a Gibson, contrary to what it says on the headstock. I'd guess it's a 70's Japanese lawsuit-era copy. My buddy said I should make him an offer, so I'm going to suggest 100.00. I figure, if nothing else, it'll give me something to scratch my mod-bone without sullying my new SG.

IDK what was on it when I got it. Some kind of RW(ugh!). I had put the EBCFs on it, but they were pretty well used up, so I bought the DTFs. The E lacked cojones. I dug out the EBCF E which I s'pose still has life in it.

Interesting… I just put DTFs on my SG, and the E string has way more cojones than the GHS Precision Flats I had on it previously. That was my main reason for swapping.

Hmm. Well, I don't know for a fact, but the SG bass's pickup design looks (from pictures of it with the cover off) direction agnostic to me. Accordingly, in the absence of more specific/knowledgeable advice otherwise, I'd simply orient the pickup so that the lead (the main wire coming off the pickup) is closest to the pickup cavity exit/control cavity entrance. Oh yeah, and shiny side up :)

If it didn't seem like it was fitting well like that, I'd investigate further.

Of course, if anyone else here has better info, please correct me!

You should try that red Hagstrom shown in your second photo. Every Hagstrom I've come across has had a beautifully playable neck.
