SG & EB Bass Club

Pyramid makes a great nickel flatwound string! That's what comes on Hofners, and is now my favorite brand for any bass with flats.I have them on my SG, and P-bass, and of course all of my Hofners.

Second fave is Optima Nickel Chrome. I have them on one P-bass, and they have lasted years so far! Still sound great!

May I join please? My new (to me) SG has fast become my favorite bass.

I'm very angry. My SG was stolen along with a Fender p bass special that I had. Just happened a couple months ago. I'm still in denial about it. It sucks! I really loved my SG

This really sucks!

How about posting photos and serial numbers, and identifying marks, both here and on facebook? There's a possibility someone has seen them, or at least can be on the lookout for them.

Just a thought...

Yes...for sure let us know where it was stolen, and a S/N. Ya never know. If you have any pics of any unique identifying marks, post those too.

I went ahead and ordered the SG bass from China, but changed the scale to 22" and color to green flame. It's on it's way.

I received the green SG a few weeks ago but the pickup was whacked, so I ordered another pickup and will have it installed Eric's Guitar. Also, the Chinese builder didn't custom make a neck for the 22" scale, they took a standard neck and just cut it off, it's really wide were it meets the body. Oh well, you get what you pay for, $320.

must explain mods

Okies!

I got hipshot tuners and bridge. I got DiMarzio Model One and a DiMarzio Will Power pickups. Originally I was going to have the Model One at the neck and the Will Power at the bridge, mostly due to string spacing. The technician seems to have put them in backwards from my order, but it works great anyway!

I have each of the DiMarzio pickups wired so they can individually be a parallel humbucker, a series humbucker, or a single coil. So, now I can have two humbuckers, or a single coil and a humbucker, or two single coils, or I can change the humbucker sounds. I left the pickup selector knob turner to switch to either single or both pickups.

For me, the DiMarzios sound way better than what came with my specific bass. They seem to balance the volume of each string getting played that I have actually stopped using compression when I'm using this bass. (I only used a little compression when my main was a Jazz bass)

There are volumes knobs for each pickup and a universal tone knob. All the pots got cleaned or upgraded.

I moved the strap button to the upper horn. It seems quite sturdy and I like the feeling with it there. Oh and a pickguardian pickguard. Just got that this morning.

I think that's all I got modded? Anyways I love it. It's my number 1 now! Current fav setting is dual single coils on it. I will be playing around with the different settings a lot!

awesome @Schopes with that in single coil mode do you get kind of a rickenbacker sound?

I think it sounds more like a heavier Jazz bass? Which I like (since my primary was a Jazz bass before I did this project).

I think this will help me get a variety of sounds that are its own and some sounds kind of like other basses. I do know that it obviously won't/can't do these other tones perfectly though.

The significant thing I will note is that since it's still mahogany body and neck, the tones will not be super bright. I might try some different (nickel plated?) strings in the future just to see what happens. But anyways, I love it right now!
