The first clip just sounds like a bass... pretty generic. Should be easy to get from the neck pickup.
In the second clip you are hearing a lot of the amp. But also sounds like the bridge pickup with a lot of the upper mids rolled off and a lot of low mids/upper bass. You can hear how the volume of the notes decrease when he plays up on the neck. I get a similar tone through my Hartke LH500, but with more oomph in the high notes.
1st clip I have not been able to get close with my EMG's no matter the EQing, going through a cabinet or DI. There's something in that sound I can't put my finger on that the EMG's don't do. I love the tone that EMG's have but now that I have primarily moved to fretless my fretted bass needs a change in its sonic spectrum in order to fill the role I have in mind.
2nd clip is a Stingray through an Aguilar Tone Hammer to an Ampeg. Can actually get sort of close to this with the onboard Aguilar OBP-3 into a Sansamp RBI, EMG's don't work too well with the Sansamp compared to my passive pickups I have in other basses.
While I know it'll be hard to match exactly what you hear on mastered recordings, it's about getting that deep bass vibe without mudding up a more metal sound track.
