redleg. The bass comes with a five position toggle. I guess I haven't seen the toggle that you describe. I was trying to disturb the bass as little as possible. (Can you say that when you gut it and put in a new pickup and preamp?) I'm going to see if I can get the four wires plus shield coming from each pickup. Then I can wire it like a sterling using all the coil options in series. He said somewhere that the output from the sidewinders in parallel is too low. My thinking was that there would be as little disturbance as possible to the bass. Just dropping in pickups and re wiring the switch and hooking up the preamp. I'm going to keep the originals in my gun safe so they can be replaced if day comes i need to sell it. Would that switch you were talking about require any extra holes etc to be changed on the body of the bass?

Use the idea of a 4 way rotary with your 5 way selector. Here is a little mod the tele guys like to use. Having the neck pup with a .022 cap would be nice for some dark goodness!http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m408/apolloguitars/misc/5waytele.jpg

Sidewinders are indeed too wimpy in parallel, I have a set of 4 conductor exposed and I wired them to series and never looked back.

For instance can you get the clarity from the fingerstyle part of wings for Marie and the harmonics of disposition from the deep neck sidewinder and the heavy outro to schism from a sidewinder or would a bridge n3 give me that.

IIRC Schism was recorded on a Stingray, so if you have your pickup in parallel you shouldn't have too much trouble getting close.
I put a Neo sidewinder in the 4003 neck position of my passive Ray34 and I can get pretty close to a Tool tone with both pickups balanced (the Sidewinder is pretty quiet compared to the MM pickup.)

when you get them, please post some sound clips. I spent a few days deciding between the deep neck and the wide neck. I settled on the wide neck, because I wanted the fatness. but that deep neck sounds so interesting.

I certainly will. Any suggestions on how I should wire them up? Im thinking passive, anyone got a diagram?

I'm pretty sure that SGD ships with a diagram. If not by default, he will help you out via PM. I need all new pots etc, so I will be getting his help with that.

I tend to prefer passive, but that's just me! I'm pretty sure all the clips of the sidewinders on his website and in this thread are passive. He does say though that his pickups do well with an active pre. He even makes/sells a couple.

Hang on everyone... I'm finishing up a big batch of orders... trying to get all caught up. Yours are probably in there.

Send me another email please.

Hey David, I was wondering if you could provide an update? You mentioned that my pickup was also in this batch, but it has yet to ship.

-Thanks

If anyone wants an update please send me a PM or an email with your name. I don't know who most of the screen names are compared to your real names.

I currently have 20 outstanding orders in progress. That means that your pickups are in various states of being built. I have a table full of bobbins and blades, etc, and now I'm matching up the parts with the orders and assembling them. This was faster than doing each set at a time since I could focus on winding or which ever task I was doing.

This also includes shipping info. Often the shipping labels, receipts and instruction sheets, etc., are printing out before the pickups are packed up. I'm doing it this way because of the number of orders I'm working on, but is not my usual way of doing things. Some things got side tracked and some orders didn't get packed up right away.

I'm sending out about 3-4 orders a week, so hang on and I'll get through them all.

This situation is not normal, but things will get back to normal soon. I apologize to everyone who is waiting, but you will get your order.

Hey David, Tyler Mills here. You mentioned the pickups I ordered would be shipping out this week. I haven't received tracking information yet so I'm wondering, will they ship next week then? I am wondering how far back in the queue I am...

Hi Tyler, your pickups are in with this bunch. So I just have to assemble them, wire them up, pour epoxy in, etc.

That's what my weekend looks like. :D

I'll be happier than you and everyone else when everyone has their order.

Any update?

Hey man, I don't mean to be a butthead, but this sort of thing is what private messages are for. This thread is primarily about general inquiries/product info, product announcement, and customers sharing info/experiences/recordings/impressions.

At the least, there are two other threads about SGD customer service and SGD's alleged failures to reply to messages.
