I am optimistic this will be a better business model for SGD and his customers.
Completely!! I don't think too many pickup builders started in order to get into the shipping business.
Now you can just focus on making great pickups.

Which pickup models will BBG carry?
Just the ND3s and Sidewinders or will you be sending them the Multicoils and MAX pickups too?
And in what sizes?
As I've said for a long time now, if SGD pickups were available to buy in stock from a retailer I'd have zero qualms about recommending them. They are fantastic pickups.
And I take it the money from the initial order from BBG will help you finish existing orders?
So were you working on the BBG order while your customers on the back log remained on the back burner?
I dont see how this is good news for your customers that have been pickupless for months or even years
Nope. I just announced his right? Take a moment and go to their website and see if you see any pickups yet. Stop presuming.
This gives me the resources to get pickups made faster. Read some of my posts to understand why this is so.
You just announced it, but it would take time to fill that order. So you have either already been working on that order, or you will have to start working on it very soon. Either way I dont see how this could not effect older orders. Are you going to tell BBG that you have prior commitments and they will have to wait till your back log is taken care of?
It seems you have more on your plate than you can handle. How will this speed anything up
People have been saying for a long time that David should focus on making pickups and find a retailer to sell them through. Clearly his current model is not working.
Does that help the people waiting on outstanding orders? Nope. But if David had announced this arrangement back when I was waiting on my very late order last year I would have had the same response.
Now, if I saw the exact pickups I was waiting on as available and in stock at BBG I'd be rightfully angry but I can't imagine that scenario unfolding.
I think for SGD to continue to exist, something like this had to happen. It's unfortunate timing for people with severely delayed orders that it is happening while they are still waiting, but the Catch 22 is that if David had the ability to catch up on all his orders and then be hitting his delivery estimates with each order after that then such a deal wouldn't be necessary in the first place.
First and foremost I hope everyone waiting gets their order and I think they will. But I also hope this new model works for David and allows him to get SGD on track and successful.
If every one of those back orders are not delivered by the time the first SGD pickup goes on sale at BBG then I would consider that extremely unfair to his current customers that gave him money expecting a product.
I don't see your name on the order list for SGD...so how exactly does this concern you? Or did I miss your name?

I don't have an order with him. I ordered from him in the past and was lucky enough to file a PayPal claim before the deadline. This was for a customers bass, that I had to delay delivery for 3 weeks because of this. I don't see why that matters anyway, I can empathize with people, and if I gave someone my hard earned money, and they decided to move on to bigger and better things before fulfilling their obligations to me, I would be pretty upset.
I'm working on pickups every day. I work on old and new orders. I have said this many times in the past. I've also said that thing would go faster when I have the resources for more supplies, etc. So this helps because I can make more pickups at a time. In the past I only ever had enough materials to make maybe 5 sets on hand.
My arrangement with BBG is between them and me.
I'd suggest instead of trying to imagine all these different scenarios, based on details you don't know, just wait and see what happens.
So then you obviously have no clue as to how long it's taking David to currently deliver pickups? Oh I see.

I don't understand this logic. Because someone doesn't have an outstanding order they aren't allowed to hold an opinion?

I agree... this is the internet...
He (she?) can be anyone (s)he wants to be...

Does this deal with Best Bass Gear help the people waiting on outstanding orders? Nope. But if David had announced this arrangement back when I was waiting on my very late order last year I would have had the same response. I actually suggested the same thing back when I had a custom bass that was finished and waiting on a pair of ND3s. I think I also said at the time that I thought David would benefit from streamlining his line and limiting the number of different shapes he offered (which ironically would likely mean no more pickups like the ones I ordered) and turning down custom jobs.
Now, if I were on the list of people with currently outstanding orders and I saw the exact pickups I was waiting on as available and in stock at BBG I'd be rightfully angry (more than angry I'd say) but I can't imagine that scenario unfolding.
