Sheehan Wife Replica bass

was this, or a prototype of this bass, present at the 2011 Nashville Amp Expo? I saw a pretty freaking convincing reproduction of The Wife sitting on a bed in one of the rooms I entered, and I believe it was this company. I got to play it acoustically, iirc.

but the reason Billy isn't with Fender is something about Yamaha simply came to him first in the 80's, from what I remember. I asked him a while back, and he said that. he also said that they treated him right, and the terrible QR of Fender in the 80's also had something to do with it, too.

SAME BASS !!!!!!!!

that was the beginning stages and the 2nd neck.. The finished bass has much beefier neck.

do you have any photos of yourself playing it ?? that would be super cool !!!!

that's definitely it! yea, I didn't actually play it, now that I see that photo. lol. it didn't even have strings on it. but I remember seeing it on the bed, and immediately got a gear bonor about it. the person present in the room let me pick it up, and take a look at it. pretty damn cool bass, indeed. if you were in the room, you may or may not remember me. I had (at the time) a Lemmy-stache, glasses, and I was toting an orange Warmoth Jaguar Bass with me I was using to test through all the amps. 3 pickups, two outputs.

That's pretty cool. Now you've just got to replicate his amp rig and you'll be set!

Not to de-rail, but I tried out one of those Sheehan Yamaha models (Attitude?) in a music store a few years back and it was hands-down the most uncomfortable bass I had ever played. Huge, clunky neck, sharp body edges and heavy as h*ll. If looked (and felt) so utterly different from how I had imagined his "Wife" bass would have felt, and was completely not something I would have ever expected Mr. Sheehan to put his name on.

"The Wife" OTOH, while worn, looks so much more faithful, accommodating and forgiving.

the original WIFE had a Dimarzio P-bass pickup. I opted for a D.Allen because I fell it has better clarity and stronger Mids.

I am a Sheehan fan but not a Sheehan-Clone.

I fell in love with this bass design and have always wanted one.

The bridge cover is set back to give room for the replacement bridge. He had an original Bad Ass installed years,years ago. Then later swapped it for a Schaller replacement bridge. You can even see where he had to fill in the wood from the hole left when he took bad ass out. ( the original bad ass had to be counter sunk )

A little while back Fender Japan did a kind of reissue of The Wife and I was trying so hard to get my hands on one and I never could find one anywhere, I searched high and low and wanted one so bad. Did you ever hear about that reissue? (In the link below)

Ishibashi had one on their site and apart from that i have not seen them anywhere else. If i had the money i would have snatched it up and had it shipped from Japan.

Fender should go after Sheehan and do a one of limited editon deal like they have with Kirk Hammet who is currently endorsed by ESP. If Billy isn't interested then they should just go ahead with the stripped down Japanese model on a larger scale.
