Shell Pink Bass Club

The Show Your Shell Pink Basses thread is so old it's mostly Photobucket deadlinks, and checking on

TalkBass Clubs & Special Interest Groups INDEX | TalkBass.com

showed nothing, so....

I've not quite got something of my own to show here yet, but this limited edition Pro Jazz took quite a lot of resisting last month:

This is what I think of when I hear "Shell Pink" - very understated, subtle - doesn't shout PINK. This example looks perfect with a dark neck (painted? wenge? or ?) and ebony? fb. I'd rock it for sure. :bassist:

I guess all the original shell pink basses have all faded to something very subtle.

For me, this is pretty much the template...

That's the shade of shell pink I like. I think it has more of an aged look to it. Sometimes I still wish I had bought the one I found in a local shop in the late '90s.
Yes, the color has a very nice aged look, but sadly this one is a bit on the heavy side and the neck on the fat side of my preferences... but the pickup is the most powerful in my bass collection.
Astonishingly this Squier pink bass jumped into my hands and felt immediately at home - effectively the first bass I bought new and kept... but with some modifications, just for my pleasure... and tone.
This is my favourite playing bass in the moment:

I got the paint, I just need to decide if the 4003 or the JMJ is going pink.....

My vote would be the JMJ. I'd love to see that bass in shell pink. Would you plan on doing a relic job or no?

The black JMJ is the first relic instrument I’ve owned. I think it’s tastefully done for a mass marketed instrument, but I mainly bought it because I liked the other special features. If you decide to proceed with the refin, I can’t wait to see the results.

better pic... I think I'm just going to sell the JMJ..

I'm badly waiting for someone to drop a picture of the shell pink Mark Hoppus bass here.... Who's got one?

I do! Old pic, but it still looks the same... swapping the neck made it sound a million times better (the pickup cover is just a place to plant my thumb and the control plate/tone control got added when the pickguard got broken).
