Has anyone ever taken the neck off and ship the two separately? It would be much easier to find 2 smaller boxes

Has anyone ever taken the neck off and ship the two separately? It would be much easier to find 2 smaller boxes
I have, for a TB'er here, a long time ago. A guitar actually.
Worked like a charm, and arrived in great shape. And it was much cheaper, with insurance.
I've never had a problem finding boxes at any of the music stores in my area. None of them bale cardboard, just toss it in the recycling dumpster. I've had to pick through, but that's not a problem.
I have kept all the boxes my basses have arrived in. I might need to ship a bass someday....
