I know this is smart assed of me to say, but I find it almost hilarious that when a guy writes a post asking for bass advice.what he should buy. Almost surely a newbie like me. He's advised to check out Alembic and Foderas or something in that class lol. Of course both are tremendously fantastic guitar makers. But you know better than I do what they cost. Get real FFS. Get off your high horses and be real. My most expensive bass is an Aerodyne Jazz, around $1000 new in Canada. I paid $350 for a used one. I'm thinking it's gonna be a long while before I ever get a Fodera or Alembic, and I'm sure I'm not the only Talkbass member in that position. Get real with your advice! Makes me think about those theories about the guys with the fast exotic cars supposedly compensating for the smallness of a certain physical appendage

And why would you limit your choices to short scale strings? I personally don't run short scale strings because if I want a balanced set I need to use long scale. Even a .145 will fit into the tuner centre hole so this would also work for a 5 or BEAD tuning.

Too many winds or not using pliers to make the 90 degree bends maybe?

The Birdsong basses are really unique with how they figured out how to get a long scale B string to fit on a short scale setup. Thanks for sharing that company!
