Short Scale bass appreciation

Short scales I've owned.

Lakland HB 30 - Never should have sold this one. Nice neck.
Ibanez Talman
Warwick Short Scale
Mini Precision Squier Short Scale
Kala acoustic/electric
Kala solid body
Schecter Banshee
Sire U5 - One of the best shorts for the money hands down. Sold because the slab body wasn't comfortable playing sitting down.
Nordstrand Acinonyx Cat - Neck pocket wasn't good.

Current Short Sale

Fender Japanese Jazz Short scale - my favorite

On the way - Kala Solid Body which is the new model with metal strings instead of the rubber type strings that were a pain with the previous ones I had.

Everyone has their own reasons to have shorties and one reason at the top of mine is arthritis on the left side of my neck. I'm 72 and most of my playing is done sitting down. Long live short scales!
Is the Japanese Jazz short scale from the Jr. Collection? How would you compare it to the Sire U5?

Yes, mine is from the Jr. Collection. I prefer a Jazz so I liked it better than the Sire U5 but you can't beat the Sire for the price and quality. If you don't mind the slab body with sharp edges than it's a no brainer over the Short Scale Jazz. The Sire is almost half the price of the short scale Jazz. The rolled edges of the Sire neck is also a plus.

Hmmm...no one's mentioned the Ibanez TMB30.
Budget.
Pretty solid value.
Yeah, folks that own them love 'em. They also offer that model in a 5 string also. You don't see a lot of used ones, that says something to me.

Rondo Music sold Brice basses and they made a 30" 5-string.
Still have mine. The string spacing at the bridge is a bit narrow for my liking (16mm) I wasn't playing it a lot, and a situation came up where I needed a fretless. So I convert mine. It was much less expensive about $15 or so in supplies and a little labor.

Well... i will know it soon.. Due to huge pain in my right shoulder, activated a lot when playing my acoustic bass (body thickness) my osteopath advices me to work on my playing position if i want to get rid of it; or just keep it at minimum. So i decide to order a SIRE U5 to play at home with a more vertical position, simulating my position when playing stand up; but without having to fight to reach my F note on E string. And i have to get a ultrasound image to see what happens.. NBD is coming !

Lakland HB30. I know I’m a broken record about these but they have a fast neck, balance quite well and great build quality. Mucho bang for buck.
When someone says "fast neck", they usually mean skinny (which actually slows down folks like me with big hands. Anyway, the point of this thread is the OP wants a short scale that DOESN"T have a skinny neck.

More jass, less a P. Not a Hofner toothpick, either. YMMV.

How did you like the Schecter?

Coincidentally, I treated myself to a Harley Benton MV-4MSB in Shell Pink yesterday. It should arrive somewhere this week. Do I need it? No, but it's sweeet! I have another one in Burgundy Mist. That first model didn't have the switch the current model has, and I added a push/pull knob (thank you LowEndLobster). It looks awesome, seems well build, fit and finish is fine, has good output and well, it's a bass. Noting wrong with it. At this price-point, I can't ask for anything more. Solid option.

Right now in my humble collection.
Olympic white Bronco.
Early SS Jaguar with Matching headstock.
Ibañez seafoam green Talman.
Both Squiers are heavily modded, new scratchplates, electronics and hardware.

Just getting started on my new to me Ashbory. Fretboard is lined but the side DOTS are those typical for a fretted instrument. However, the action is so high (almost 1/4" at the octave) that the dots intonate almost perfectly and the LINES are wrong! I'm glad I didn't move the dot positions with a drill and acrylic paint yesterday. I'll probably cover the fingerboard with tape to hide the lines.
