Fender Kingman V2, Epiphone EB-0, Squier Jag SS (Converted to fretless), and my #1 : Fender Japan Junior Collection Jazz Bass.

The JB had a prototype finger ramp. Now it has a rosewood ramp.

Exactly. A lot of the time I play it with my fingers over or just behind the pickup for max thump. But it also sounds great playing with a pick while palm-muting at the bridge. The H22 has a unique combination of thump and airiness--very alive sounding.

While most know that Mr Clarke has had a long relationship with the Wickershams and Alembic, not many know his basses are all short scale. He's a tall man with big hands, yet prefers short scale Alembics, and his have the necks shaved even smaller than normal, which for me always killed the discussion about having to have wider fingerboards to slap with. He's also been toying with a similar-sized, High C five:

When you hear someone mention an Alembic 'Brown Bass', it usually means a Stanley Clarke pattern axe, along these lines:

And Alembic usually reserves this shape only for short or medium scale, as it's a Gravity Amplifier with those tiny horns trying to balance a VERY long scale neck.

Didn't know that. The other Bruce Johnson has played bass for the Beach Boys forever and took Brian Wilson's place in the live band.
