Short scale Stingray!

I’m loving the TI Jazz Rounds on my shirt scale. Yes, the JR324’s are made for a 32” scale but they fit with no issues. I don’t know if I’d try that with the flats due to their construction but the rounds worked out well.
I just had another set of these show up today. I'm using them on a medium scale but I like the feel of them and they have good tone even though the guages are pretty light.

I use the TI Power Bass rounds on my L2K and am very happy with the feel of those strings on that bass. I was a little concerned that the JR's would be too light but I can't believe how incredible the E string sounds on this short scale. I had a cheesy Squier Bass VI for a short while and despised that bass not the least for the horrible light gauge E string the instrument came with from the factory (Fender strings I presume). It was so light and floppy it would just fall off the neck. I went with LaBella rounds for that bass and it improved it, marginally, but the bridge was such a clusterf@*k I ultimately sold it to Guitar Center for almost what I paid for it. Meanwhile, the TI Jazz Rounds are just about the lightest strings I've had success with and they sound and feel amazing.

Bit quiet on here recently!
@AjCalderon how are you getting on with your pink ray, black hard wear here yet!?
Anyone hear anything about the standard colour releases for 2021?

Our little guy is still getting along well with his, and it sees more use than his mustang. Here's from yesterday (rough, as they just started this song). I'd say that the biggest issue that throws him when going back and forth between the mustang (flats) and stingray (rounds) is the different number of frets, which you can see a bit here. He now tries to focus on the nut instead of the end of the fretboard as a frame of reference. He'll get there.

Been thinking about letting my 7.1lb Starry Night go so I can order another custom Public Peace active short scale. I love the feel of my starry night but really wish it were active. I was thinking about adding a pre-amp but the luthier work involved with routing a battery box and possible more routing in the cavity to add the pre-amp and adding a side jack might be expensive. I think I just might sell her. I'll keep this thread posted when I decide to put her in the classifieds. I have the original pickguard and a solid brushed black pickguard along with the clear one that is on it now.

Ooooo I like the piece of maple you got for your hot pink!!! The black looks amazing!!! Can’t wait to put my hardware on!!

I haven’t gotten a chance to swap my hardware yet as my go to luthier has been bed ridden with health issues for a couple weeks. I’m not in a super hurry since I’ve been enjoying it playing as it is.

After trying the thicker strings on the starry night compared to the stock on the pink I definitely prefer the stock gauge. They just feel good. Just loose enough. I’ll save the thicker set for whichever of my basses ends up being tuned a whole step down.

I have no idea what nato is, to be honest. I thought it was a treaty that we signed with our European allies after WWII. My feeling is that in a $500-$600 bass you're likely to get most of the bang from your buck from how the pickups sound and not whether you can hear a difference between "mahogany" or the nato. Rest assured whatever "mahogany" they used, it wasn't akin to that fabled tree down in Honduras. It was probably a cheap variation. Buy the bass from someone who has a good return policy so you're covered. I think you'll be impressed with what you get for the money.

Looking at the sterling version as my first short scale. They just released it a dropped cooper finish which I love, but noticed the body wood changed as well from mahogany to nato. Any opinions on nato? Only seen it on super cheap Ibanez etc. and wasn’t a fan.

I don’t know much about nato but I feel like the ash body on the US accounts for part of the snap and clarity missing from the mahogany body on the Sterling. It could also be the difference in pickups but if the nato gave it a little bit more snap it might not be a bad things since mahogany is pretty warm.

True. Buying from the big guys for exactly this reason. Don’t have one in the store that I can try so I have to order online. But with a 45 day return policy I’m not worried.

Shame this thread has gone quiet, guess there's no EBMM Short Scale action at the moment.
The Vault has no Short Scales and generally sold out ... I was told by a UK Bass Dealer not to expect
any EBMM Shorties anytime soon and suggested they were discontinued, not sure that's true, maybe
they have shelved them for now. Anyone heard anything?

@AjCalderon how you getting on with your 'Pink' !?

Before I purchased mine I had some communication with their customer service. It sounded like there will likely be some built later this year although it was unclear whether they would be available through dealers or just a very small run via the vault only. My Sweetwater rep said they hadn't heard anything.
I expressed interest in a fretless model to EBMM and the rep said they'd raise that as a possibility.
