My guitar player wore shorts and white tennis shoes to rehearsal yesterday, thus breaking rules 1 & 2 of the Rock & Roll etiquette handbook. Then he announced his back was sore and chose to play while seated for the last half of rehearsal, thus breaking rule #3. He was unaware that he had a 6" gash in the crotch of his shorts, thus violating several additional rules and throwing the viability of the band into question.
I was briefly (no pun intended) in a band a few years back...the guitar player was a heavy-set dude who had to play sitting down due to knee problems. Before our first gig, I told him half-jokingly "just don't wear shorts, dude." The band was as disaster, and I quit after that one shambolic gig. Despite my departure, they soldiered on. At their next gig, the dude not only wore shorts,...he wore what could only be described as runner's shorts. The chair he brought was actually the drum stool from his kid's RockBand game. Needless to say, it required him to sit more or less like a baseball catcher. According to the drummer's wife who was there, people were shifting their lawn chairs to get out of the direct line of sight. About a half hour into the gig, that poor little stool gave up the ghost and our guitar hero ended up in a heap on the ground..complete with full frontal wedgie.
Yeah, I'll stick to jeans...even if it's a 90° day.
