Should I buy an Aguilar DB750?

Currently using 50 watt and 100 watt tube heads. Worried that I'm reaching their thresholds as gigs grow. Only considering this bass amp because the Black Crowes Sven Pipien played one for 3 years on tour and I'm a black crowes freak almost to a fault. I like all tube amps a lot, but maybe I should consider a solid state addition? I play Fender P & J, no effects, flats and XLs in rock, blues jam band. I don't want to buy a piece of gear just because some band I like used it in their backline. Plus Sven pimps Acoustic now...clearly he'll be anybody's ho :eyebrow:

Too big and heavy for me too these days. With all the micro heads out there, there has got to be something that fits what you're looking for. For a great tube like tone, I suggest checking out the GB Steamliner, Mesa Walkabout, and the Ampeg SVT7.

I picked up a DB750 used a while back and after owning numerous 'famous' amp models, including new and vintage SVT's, and I have to say this is by far my favourite amp I've ever owned!

I get all the tube saturation I need from the 3 12AX7's in the pre, the DI with Jensen transformer and 12AU7 has been great for a fat live tone to FOH, as well as direct in the studio, and the rackmount chassis has been perfect as a road rig. As some mention, it can be a bit weighty for some, but its still half the weight of an SVT, and for me the tone outweighs a little weight any day.

I say go for it man. Since I've had this amp I've had nothing but compliments from sound techs on gigs and engineers in the studio. Love this amp. I ended up pairing it with two GS 1x12 cabs, which has proven to be a great combo for small to medium size club gigs.

I also love the DB750s power (which I've never had to turn up past "nine o'clock") and the tone is just so nice! I've used in a variety of ways: with GS112s and GS210 and an Accugroove 112L; a Fender American Jazz bass, a Stambaugh bass, and Ribbecke acoustic bass guitar. Always got great "reviews" about the tone. Yes, it's heavy, and that's just how it is.

It's arguably the best amp on the market. Should you buy one? YES YOU SHOULD BUY ONE! :smug:

OP - honestly, nobody can answer this question for you.

Its like me saying "should I buy a Porsche? I drive a Honda now, but my friend has a Porsche"

I highly recommend you play one first to see if you like the tone. If your worried about volume - its deff the answer. But tone should be king - play one and see if its your crown.

I used a DB 750 as my main amp for 6 years, sold it last year.
It's not the most versatile amp and it doesn't really have a superb slap tone IMO, but it sounds very warm, full and slams monstrously hard.
It's pretty much impossible not to be heard, whatever band, whatever genre. Thickness & fatness even at low volumes plus headroom for days is what you'll get.

As already mentioned, the weight is a big con for many people, including me.
I really wish Aguilar came out with a 2U 750 watts amp under 30 pounds.
