Should I do this trade? MIJ for MIA fender?

I love the bass but want something new.

I voted no for this statement alone. In this type of situation, I'd suggest playing any bass you'd swap your current one out for, because you want to find one you love MORE.

Have a few MiJ’s, they’re awesome, more so per the used price/great condition I found these in… but barring problems or wear & tear issues, I’d be inclined toward the trade. Part of MiJs’ general appeal for me comes from their bang for buck value and in some cases unique options/models.

This specific scenario is different, and I see a potential trade up here value-wise, and feature-wise the 9.5” radius and modern fret size over the vintage-style specs. I’d look toward the Am Pro II, and maybe leave room in terms of expectations… in case the other person has a change of mind while you both check out the instruments in person.

You can try it out in person, sounds like a situation where the worst that could happen is you both walk away with you original instruments in hand, or you wake up in a tub full of ice water minus a kidney. Heh. You put the instrument up for sale already and want to try something different, go for it.

You can buy an AmProII retail right now, and there are tons on the used market. It's much harder IMO to find a good, solid 1995 MIJ 62 reissue.

Disclaimer: I just bought an AmProII recently, and absolutely love it. One of my favorite basses I've owned.

Bottom Line: I voted no, but in the end it's all about their respective value to you.

I voted yes. Those American Professional II’s are sweet. I have had four of them now: two jazzes in pine / maple and a P sunburst/ rosewood. I now have a 5 string P and I am loving it.

I have both of these basses. I would do it. The MIJ isn’t nearly as nice. I’ve owned a lot of MIJ Fenders and none of them compare to the newer US stuff.

YEAh, MIJ Fenders are good instruments, but, the pickups, hardware and fret work is a lot better on the US basses- especially the American Pro II series
