Should I get an iPod?

I am currently in a similiar situation. My old ipod (4th gen 20 gb) is getting old. It doesnt really work well anymore, ie: shuts off even when battey has half life left, input jack is loose, parts of the display have gone black.

Considering getting the ipod classic 80gb. The competitors dont really look that good.

I got the 60Gb video a year or so ago. I've put ALL of my music on it (which took quite a while, but was good cuz I wound up listening to some stuff I hadn't heard in a long time). I run mine through my Bass Pod XT Live w/ headphones, which makes for a good practice tool. My stereo in my Jeep is equipped to hook up an IPod, so I can flick through playlists at my convenience while I'm driving (controlled from my steering wheel, no less). I listen to my sports podcasts when I'm commuting. I listen to the tunes I'm covering when I'm driving to my gigs. When I go to bed, I listen to nature sounds until I go to sleep.

I think I'm pretty much hooked.

I have a 4G 20GB iPod, 2.5 years old. I use it during my commute (on the train and the bus), when I'm walking around town, during workouts, and sometimes when I'm writing at work, too. The battery still works pretty darn well despite a lot of use, it just runs down a little quicker than it used to. I haven't had a single problem with iTunes, either. I expect I'll get the 80GB Classic next year, once I get a new PC (proof I'm not an Apple fanboy ) with a bigger hard drive.

I haven't tried the Zune, but I did give the Creative Zen a try back in '05. I really wanted to like it, partly because the contrarian in me didn't want to get an iPod like everybody else. But that infernal touch pad for scrolling drove me nuts, even when I turned the sensitivity to its lowest setting. The iPod scroll wheel was a breeze by comparison.

In short: Yes, get an iPod.

hm.. I like the zen interface way more than the ipod one...

I guess this is more of an issue of personal preference..

i'm kind of regretting not getting the 80 instead but all that space did come in handy for when i moved over to my macbook

Could be. I don't care for most touch pads, anyway.

Also, depending on when you bought your Zen, they may have improved the interface since I tried it.

I've been very impressed with Apple's customer service.

They allowed me to re-download all of my iTunes purchases when my computer crashed and I am now in the process of getting the battery replaced.

Shipping was overnight and free for both directions. On the website, my iPod is "pending replacement."

Yeaaaa!
