Should you put stickers on a bass.

Ever see an Alembic, a Fodera,a Ritter,or a Benavente bass with a lot of stickers on it?

If you're going to have a bass that stands out--whether due to stickers, or its price tag, or a custom rattle-can paint job--you had better be able to play the snot out of it. Nothing is worse, IMHO, than some jackhole with a bass (or guitar) that stands out for all the wrong reasons, and he can't play a lick. Makes me think "Nice (or interesting) bass--too bad he can't play it."
I'd much rather have people say, "He really makes that Squier sound like 10 times what it's worth." Nothing is worse than a poser.
(In my case, people say, "He's pretty much making that Squier sound like the $199 he paid for it." Fair enough.

I personally am not inclined to sticker my basses, but you know it's an alright cool thing to do if Family Man does it

I'm leaving the stickers on but will add pickup rings to make it look like a 60's bass. Pickups are the wonderful Greco T-Bird bass pickups.

Is there really anything more to say? Those who're trying to convince others that it's unacceptable, clearly weren't paying attention in school... Our forefathers died so that you can sticker your bass, so if you don't like to, then don't do it... but swearing on a stack of bibles that it's the law? Really? That's the definition of communism... forcing your "idea" on others.
Democracy, which is our current form of government, says that I can play a Fender Squire covered in stickers and you can play a $7000 Alembic, and yet we're equals.
I agree that it's a rock and punk thing... but then look what Bootsy does with his? It's called preference. The fact that some or most "pro's" don't, is irrelevant, because guys like Cliff Burton, Pete Steel, and Matt Freeman did.
gebass, Your post nailed it bro. But I will say that, Pete Steel covered his basses in electrical tape and nail polish, and he was Alembics first signature artist, so even they knew how to flew once!
These are the only stickers on mine but I'll probably take them off. It's like that 'Do not remove this label' thing on mattresses, you kind of feel like they have to be there.
I think stickers are OK, some sticker jobs I have seen are pretty cool. I just can't bring myself to do it to mine.
Do Not play that bass in a trash can!
I should tell you I call the little dingy corner of the basement where my practice/work space is "My Hovel". This is the 'good end'
Yes, that's bits of Styrofoam glued to the walls between furring strips, classy! The people who owned the house before were 'do-it-your-selfers'. Once I get done redoing the upstairs I'll make a cozy little spot down here.

Well, for the most part I'd say no. Depends on the bass and for what/where i would be playing it. My first bass i ever had was a first act Pbass back in 2002, put a squier neck and bridge on it, and line 6 bass pups. Took off the pick guard. Once, when i was 16-17, i used hot glue to attach a few of those glow-in-the-dark stars all over the front. Only left them on for a few weeks, tops. Then i stuck a blue &purple mushroom sticker near the eq knobs. It was small n not very noticeable, as the bass had a dark blue, slightly glittery finish. Finally, when i was about 23, a close friend wanted to paint it for me, i agreed, if he could keep the sticker on it. I chose the colors, and he painted it
depends on the bass. My ocean burst stingray, nope. If i ever got a pbass, or some other basic color bass probably., On my guitar I have a beaver and FxCK Cancer one
