Show me your Alembics

Check this new purchase of a mint 1993 Alembic Essence. What a gorgeous instrument.

Thanks. Not in the 24th fret so I will check under the cover tomorrow. Must be an older one according to Alembic's site but it's in great shape and looks great.

That's interesting. When I bought an ollllllld Series I years ago I couldn't find the s/n, I called Mica at Alembic. She told me the REALLY old ones had the s/n stamped into the wood at the tip of the headstock. Then they moved the location to the last fret of the fingerboard. Then they moved it to the truss rod cover.

The one I was buying then ('74) had it at the tip of the headstock, like Mica suggested. Then I acquired a '79 Series II where it was stamped into the end of the fingerboard, just below the 24th fret, so apparently the move to the end of the fingerboard happened then. Then I bought an '87 Series I. The s/n for that one is also on the last fret of the fingerboard. Then came my 2000 Series II. It's on the truss rod cover.

So the switch from last fret to truss rod cover had to happen sometime after '87 and before '00. Epics started production in '94 and are still in production, so it SHOULD be in one of those two places.

Or you could just call Mica.

FC Bass.....you have a number of Alembics spanning probably more years than mine....where are you're s/n placed?

Nevermind.......

From Alembic's website......

Where to find serial number:

on new instruments - stamped on the truss rod cover and in the electronics cavity.
on Epics and Orions - stamped in the back of the peghead and in the electronics cavity. Note: oldest Epics have the serial number in the electronics cavity only
on older isntruments - stampled directly on the ebony fingerboard below the 24th fret.
on the oldest instruments - stamped on the top of the peghead.

First Epic in Link Removed is 93W7806, completed in june or july '93

I've never seen any Alembic marked with a xxxx serial number though... :p

First Alembics have the serial number stamped in the top of the headstock
In the eighties (maybe late seventies, not sure here) they started to stamp the serial number under the 24th fret. -edit- That would be around '79 according to Malthumbs post, I've seen one from '78 with the number on the headstock.
My '90 Elan (90H6003) is the first in my humble collection to have the serial number on the truss rods cover and stamped in the controls cavity (my '88 Spoiler has the serial number in the fretboard)
All set neck Alembics (Orion/Excel/Epic) have the serial number stamped on the back of the headstock and/or in the controls cavity.

Now I need to find the history but looks like Mica might be a year or so behind the lookups
