Show me your compact pedalboard setup

I always wanted to hear any of compact pedalboards in band mix. My logic is: since there is minimum # of effects, they are all having some use, even if for 1 song of set.
In my band, Vocal/Guitar asked if I ever use any of pedals =( And I do, I consistently use OD on 3 songs, and Chorus on 1 more, plus I use compressor below 500 Hz all the time. So maybe all these compact boards are only in bassist imagination =)

Just (re)wired up the smaller of my 2 boards, this one to be used with band#1 Star Meets Sea. >

Board was made from an ikea 2 tier slatted shelf that another geetar playing BL neighbor friend cut the slightly sloped end rails that he then bolted the shelf to, and slapped some 3/4" Velcro on >

I've actually managed to squeeze 12 pedals on this board one time in the past

I've adopted the "less is more" approach. Have it down to 3 pedals including tuner:

MRX-M81 <- Keeley Bassist <- Polytune 3 <- passive 5 string mahogany bass with delano soapbars and black beauty light gauge strings.

The polytune has a buffer, and I think the M81 does too, so, random, buffer at each end of the board and just the compressor in between.

I don't play with effects, The 3 band mid-sweep EQ on the M81, and the compressor too for that matter are just about getting the best version of natural sound of the bass thru. works like a charm!

I have an arbitrary rule for myself that I won’t go any larger than a Pedaltrain Nano+. It helps me fight GAS and make sure that everything on the board is really necessary.

Here’s the current configuration after some recent tinkering. Despite how it may appear, I’m not an MXR endorsing artist... but I’d pick up the phone if they called!

I helped our lead guitarist last Sunday, he's a 2 trips to the car musician, large-ish pedalboard, Amp, Guitar. He always brings in his decent-sized holey board first, so I grabbed it for him so he could go make his second trip to the vehicle. Mannn that thing is comparatively heavy!

I have a nano, nano+ and a small gator aluminum board. They get traded around and used for different setups, but only one at a time. That's as big as it will ever get for me. I had grown to a PT JR at one point. Never again. If it won't fit on one of my 3, It don't belong!

Yeah it's nuts. At one point in the past I even bought a bike trailer just to transport a fully loaded pt-3 + hardcase.
Now I will never go any bigger than a nano+.
Another thing is option paralysis. Big boards are way too distracting. There is always one knob more to turn or one pedal to fit in :D

My board as it stands today, with two new additions (one thanks to Johno). Have not heard it and the order is a bit wonky I think so will need some tweaking.

I aspire to compact, so far am failing miserably...

I personally, would run Glowpluug>Chorus>HP>Keeley. Just my opinion, but give it a shot and see what you think. Turn each pedal off, then on one at a time. Get a good tone with the GP, then add the Chorus. Then turn the HP to full cut, and dial it back in until the lows are nice and tight and fat, and then turn the Comp on and fine tune it! Just how I’d do it, but worth a try!

My arbitrary rule comes from Spaceballs. "Take only what you need to survive". If I'm not using it, it's not coming with me. Since coming back to bass 6 months ago, I've stuck to a Nano. Though I've tried to cram a Plus sized number of pedals onto it. Hasn't stuck.

On guitar, the biggest I've gone is the PT2c. But that thing hasn't left the house yet. :D
