Show me your compact pedalboard setup

Famous last words a few months ago... 'I'm done'
I wasn't really utilizing the SourceAudio C4 and Aftershock (and, honestly, running HX Edit + SA's software was a bit much for me... too much menu diving). Put an expression pedal on the end, and put a Pork & Pickle in the chain to have dedicated dirt.

I love the stuff I can do with the stomp, but I still feel like it's overkill since I'm running into a dedicated amp 90% of the time. I go back and forth on loving the sounds and getting frustrated with menu diving. I feel like I'd keep it around for electric guitar even if I went back to more individual pedals for bass.

What type of board is that? Is it White Fawn, a'la a Vox? Meant to add - it is gorgeous!

Thanks! It’s a PedalPad AXS III Mini in Vox Fawn. I’ve had a couple of their bigger boards and love the build quality. When I downsized, I ordered a small version of one of their boards and love it. It has a few little add’l touches that I love. It has a power switch, a 1/4” jack, and a power plug built in to the side.

If you reach out, they’ll usually work with you a bit, too. Great folks!

Nice! How many pedals can you fit underneath?

I said the same thing on October 14th, 2021.

...then I got an HX Stomp yesterday. Sweetwater is running a deal where you get the Stomp, Helix Native, and some sort of "worship bundle" for the same price as JUST the HX Stomp.

Fiddled with it this morning before work. My initial thought is, as you said, too much menu diving. I'm hoping with time I will get used to the controls, and maybe it will be easier when I hook it up to my computer, but I'm definitely feeling buyer's remorse (and a little overwhelmed) right now.

The Stomp menu takes a little getting used to but you will get the hang. If you prefer the desktop editor that is much easier.

As far as default tones, I would not use the stock settings on the amps. Instead take a look at DrToneLab's website:

And more specifically, his "Balanced EQ" amp settings:

I'm also a big fan of his Studio Tube DI preset here (instead of the "Low/High Cut Block" before the amp I use a HPF/LPF block after the amp with the LPF around 6.5k):

There are loads of people, resources, and info over in this thread that can help as well:

I'm going to download every one of those presets. Thanks for the tip!

There are also lots of tricks that are discussed in that Stomp thread. Everything ranging from block order, to using split frequency paths on effects to add in clean bass blend (for example on overdrives/fuzzes), compressor settings, adding MIDI controllers, etc.

Its a great place to read through and ask questions.

LOVE Pedal Pad! I think I've had mine for a little over a year, maybe two? Had a couple of issues(very minor), and they went above and beyond to try to resolve them for me. I highly recommend Pedal Pad!

At the time, I didn't need any I/O's so all I added was the power inlet and the mic stand holder. Now, I kinda want some I/O's, so I may end up ordering another board from them! They do really good work, and it's not really any more expensive than any other custom built pedalboard. It's also not the lightest board you can buy, but it's solid, and I never worry about the safety of my pedals!

Sorry, the board isn't very "compact"...

I was honestly initially worried... my first PedalPad was from the old owner... I saw new owners and thought 'I know how this goes...'

But, the new owners are super easy to work with, and they didn't 'take over' the company to run it into the ground, they have a passion for the product and it definitely showed when I was working with them. Also, they were very accommodating... I definitely ordered a board that was a bit too small for what I really needed/wanted, and since it hadn't hit production yet, they let me resize and add some stuff to it. Also, I missed a sale they had by about two weeks, where they were adding a few options for free, so they pinged me before they started the build telling me about the sale, and that they'd throw the stuff on if I wanted... I've *never* heard of that.

Yeah, they're heavy. They're definitely heavy, but I'd trust it to hold up on the road way more than I'd trust a smaller board in a gig bag. I've had bad luck in the past with opening the bag and finding things shifting around / unplugged / etc. Never had that with these.

I just told them we got a new Sansamp at home today... And they are ready for testing. Dog is not sure if v2 will be as clanky as version 1, and looks a bit sceptical but we will see... Cat as always wants to climb on the vibrating amp and actually gives no poopie about the pedals. Dog is a Tech21 die hard fan. View attachment 4463618
V2 mid control is much better than v1 without it.
