Show me your compact pedalboard setup

I’m still tweaking my board, but I think I’ve finally landed on a winning combination. The only thing I may change moving forward is swapping out my Strobostomp tuner for a Shure GLXD16+ at some point for live use.
I removed my OE DCX Bass which I really only ever used in EQ mode. I feel the OE Fifteen covers much of the same tonal territory, so having both was a bit redundant. I also removed my Empress ParaEQ Bass and replaced it with the Trickfish Signal Filter. I found I used the HP & LP filters always and the 3 band only occasionally, so it made sense to me to keep it simple. I also greatly prefer the 24 db slope and switches of the Trickfish SF.
I am super happy with how it all sounds and feels now. I wanted a clean, high quality amped bass tone that would work live or in the studio for any of the genres I typically cover and this combination is delivering in spades!

I also found that the Fifteen covers a lot of the DCX territory. The Trickfish signal filter is interesting. I just got the Empress Bass ParaEQ and have been liking the tuning and controls.

But we can't see the board; it's covered in pedals! Would you consider adding a few pictures? I always love seeing the DIY boards.
I can get some pictures later but I made one of these:
Used his measurements for depth and laid out my pedals to figure out how wide. I already had the miter box from other projects. I may try modifying this design since the wood is so cheap and I have plenty left over. Might try to tilt a bit as it's a little high in normal use.

Every time I try to go to a Nano+, I last about three days before I put the OC-2 back on. I much prefer the form factor of a Nano+ to the Metro 16, but until I get a newer, smaller Oracle, it's not in the cards.

Yeah, I have the same problem with the OE BassRigs. My OCD doesn’t like it when the pedal is taller than the board, so Metro 16 for me. The Oracle looks pretty beefy, what are the dimensions?

I think it's almost 7.5 inches tall. It takes up almost all three rails on a Metro.

The better solution is to build a board, and I've got some ideas for that.

BABY BURRITO

Pedaltrain Nano

Valeton GP-05

Baby Burrito Controllers:
MVAVE Chocolate Plus
Sonicake V-Express

My tiny board has only one effect pedal! The Valeton has 100 effect spots for up to 9 effects. I programmed the MVAVE Chocolate Plus to handle bank/individual patch switches, and turn off each type of effect within that chain. The V-express is connected via TRS/mini TRS to the Chocolate for volume control. All powered by a 10000 mA power bank. It can even charge other devices if need be.

This is amazing! This has really inspired me to look at something similar. Any downsides to this set up in your opinion?

It’s very compact, runs all on one power bank, the battery lasts for hours and it’s super light. Very customizable. Use the tuner as a kill switch. The MVAVE is a great tool as I can page up/down, patch up/down and turn on all 9 effects individually. My downside is the only way to tweak any settings is via a phone app or computer. I have a few patches that work

Both of my main gigs have some time off this time of year; and as the saying goes, “when the mice are away, the cat will play;” or something like that.

So…here is my current “bag of tricks:”

IMG_1740.jpeg

Inside are all necessary mics, cables etc and not one, but two compact pedal boards on PT Nano boards, driven by CIOKS supplies..

Board one is mainly for my FSO basses, which include onboard Sadowsky preamps. I probably do 85% of my gigs with these basses.

IMG_1741.jpeg

A key element on this board is the BDDI V1. I happened to use one of those on a plugless board last season with unexpected benefits in two respects. First, the Sound Engineers wholly smile with major thumbs up at the BDDI feed. Second, the SVT-ish analog sim compliments the Fender tones in a big way.

An amusing side note is that I purchased several more of these 35 year old pedals in supposedly working condition; all of which were sent to the fine people at Tech21 for various capacitor replacements. The sellers literally thought the pedals were operating in a correct way. Fortunately, Tech21 service is timely, not expensive, and delivered with a smile. Nice and highly competent folks; kind of remind me of Alembic, attitude-wise.

The More into the BDDI is peas n carrots. Not just carrots.

Board Two is my universal board, delivering incredible clean tones for any and all of my basses.

The box on the right is my Alembic Series switch box, for those gigs where I take that unique instrument. The stomp switch activates the +15VDC and -15VDC isolated feeds from the CIOKS DC7 to the 5 pin Alembic connector. There is a parallel 1/4” jack on the side of the box for the rest of my instruments, which don’t need that power feed.

The outboard Sadowsky preamp acts as a tone shaper for my Fender passive instruments and also as a line leveler for basses which have very hot signals.

The Venus Z preamp is quite simply my fav board preamp I’ve found so far, delivering tube character with a 4 band tone shaping circuit. The Sound Engineers gave this one a big thumbs up as well last year.

Bass of Choice, Bag of Tricks, QSC K.2 monitor, stand duffel; bring on the gigs!

Updated a couple of my small boards with fab results.
My Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail delay died, so I replaced it with a used Catalinbread Echorec, which when paired with the Bicycle, sounds like the world ending. Add Big Muff or Bass Synth to taste!
On the second board, I ditched the Animals fuzz. Great pedal, just didn’t need fuzz there. Tried a Way Huge Attack Vector but it cut volume too much, so I wound up with a Boss PH-3. Very spacey! 🪐
