Show me your compact pedalboard setup

PedalBoard - Copy.jpg

Latest incarnation. Added A/B to take tuner out of signal chain, as last tuner died mid-set...

What's the lowdown on that Locomotive? Anything you would compare it to amongst some of the well known TB overdrives?
I’ll definitely have to get back with you on this one, Graham. I’ve only played 2 gigs with it and have had zero alone time with it. Plugging into it onstage Saturday night was the first time I put electricity to it and I was pleased right off the bat. Still haven’t taken any of the knobs past 12 o’clock, haha!
Last night in the last set, I just ran it by itself and it made the GK 212 combo (a beater rig that I leave on a side stage downtown) sound much warmer and I loved what I was getting.
Still have the Grit N Girth pedal that I bought from you. Along with a Terraformer, WIIO, Fifth Gear, BBBOD, Tech21 VT... I want to compare them this week if I can. Ready to make decisions and offload some od pedals and begin my compressor pedal quest.
Been curiously waiting for the Locomotive ever since I found out about Crazy Tube Circuits and was going to preorder it but felt like an expensive shot in the dark. Then the videos came out and one of them sold me. Bought it online from Prymaxe while I was out on vacation. Got it for much cheaper catching a sale and I had to pull the trigger. Will let you know when I get an honest opinion on how I feel about the details when I can

So I recently swiyched this:

And I love it.

The amount of options I have with my HX surpasses my previous stompbox collection by a mile.
Not to mention it's a lot more compact with my Metro20 Pedaltrain.

Only con is, I need to use two power sources.

Hey M4verick, what are your favorite presets on that HX? I have been considering one of these. Do you feel that you are missing anything from a traditional standard pedalboard?

HX? I have been considering one of these. Do you feel that you are

Hey man, to be honest the only significant thing it's missing are the cab and amp sims. This was a big deal to me but I didnt want to spend 2x much on helix which is also a lot more heavier.
It's also a little more time consuming to tweak the settings without the PC compared to simple knob twist on pedals.

When it comes to effects I love the distortion / OD section, also the delays are amazing. I like the envelope filter though I had to tweak it a lot to find the sound I like.
I'm not so fond of choruses (I prefer my Corona to the 70s chorus on HX, still fiddling on it, though), the octaver is so so (too boomy for me imo).
The tuner is nowhere near the precision of my TU-3.

Overall it's a compromise, as always but I would have needed 10 quality expensive pedals to have a better sound then the HX, which would have been 2x expensive and 2x heavy.

Awesome thanks! I wish these had onboard XLR outs. Would be perfect. I play in a worship group and we are direct 100% of the time with IEM's, no amps on stage. I guess its not terrible to run an outboard DI, would just be handy to have everything in one place.

Nah man, I've had the Helix and was using it as a DI, it was very noisy and it was the reason I sold it. I bought a passive Radial DI which is extremely silent and I'm using it till this day.

How is the drop treating you? I was thinking about getting it for some songs I do in eb like Stevie Ray or Van Halen

I love it. I was originally using it to tune a full step down, for every song, and it worked absolutely flawlessly for that. Now I use it as an always on pedal when I bring alternate basses to band practice, and love using it as an octaver for certain songs, or just a straight 100% octave down for a part or two
