I’ve given up on any sort of overdrive. I buy them and love them, then over time I gradually dislike them more and more. I am loving this bare bones setup currently.
Actually, I've been working towards this for the past 12 years. Going down various rabbit holes, searching for that sound in my head like everyone else here on T.B. Everything here is exactly what I need to achieve my sound and what I need for my band. I'm no longer looking for anything, but it's still fun to look at what's out there. but there's no desire to acquire anything. It feels good to be done with G.A.S.
I'm coming back to bass after about 10 years playing drums. Just put together my first pedalboard since coming back!
There's a CIOKS Sol power supply under the board, which is a Pedaltrain Nano+.
I'm pretty happy with it. I started with the tuner, compressor, and a Microtubes Infinity, but something about the Darkglass preamp made my tone sound dull. I returned it and tried a B7K Ultimate, same thing. So I replaced that with a Vintage MT and B3K, and added the Magellan Pre, and to me it sounds much better. A clear and detailed clean tone, some added harmonic content with the Vintage at low gain, and a more aggressive distortion from the B3K. I'm only using the contour controls on the Magellan for tone shaping at the moment.
I have a Magellan 800 amp head, so I decided to get the Magellan Pre so that I can duplicate my tone on the amp head and swap out the pre for another pedal if I choose. But if I am playing through someone else's amp, or no amp at all, I can take my sound with me.

New boost pedal came today. I use this board in 2 bands and at church. Most times I’m di’ing into the mains and use IEMs. It’s been a solid setup for around two years now (minus the new pedal)

I wanted a bit of a do anything board that could still fit in a backpack. Chain goes tuner->envelope filter->muff (splits the clean signal out to a clean amp)->AO->octave->chorus->cavernsv2 into amp with effects. With the caverns being a delay and reverb and the built in phaser in the mxr chorus, I feel like I have everything I could possibly need. I made the board myself so it's nice and light, not an inch bigger than it needs to be and fits right in my backpack.

I’m currently enjoying combing and stacking different kinds of drives, which is why there are three of them on there. The Lizard Queen is it’s own thing, it’s in one of the Switchblades loops to allow me to mix in dry signal to taste (thanks for the tip, Nate Navarro), but the Sansamp and the Darkglass I do combine sometimes. The Darkglass is usually where most of my toneshaping goes on, but I don’t mind running it as a clean preamp (and possibly allowing some light grit from the Sansamp.
The Hotone doubles as volume and tuner, the bass comp is not very noticeable but always on, the OC-5 is a cool addition in certain riffs and songs (but used sparingly). The Joyo is really just there if I need to boost anything.
From time to time I’ll really strip it down and just use one or two pedals, but for the time being, I’m enjoying building an array of sounds, ranging from clean to overwhelmingly nasty. At the very least, the experience will undoubtedly teach me a few things about what works and what doesn’t.
