it's an ebony piece i designed for a thumb rest. here's another view on one of my other basses.

I really wanted a Fender Vintera Precision bass when they first came out...tried one and the tone was everything you'd want from a P bass..but it just didn't work for me.
Wasn't actually a comfort issue, wasn't simply the neck, it was something I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Tried this one out three months ago and had a feeling the minute I picked it up that it was special...plugging it in proved it definitely was.
(It was so nice I bought the Jazz version the very next day.)

Recently finished a Warmoth build. It's become my #1 four string axe.

I finally found The Keeper.
Simple? Yes.
White? A Never Thought I'd Say "Yes" yes.
Tort? Yes.
2014 Fender Standard Precision in "Arctic White" that has mellowed to an off-white tint.
It plays wonderfully and has the classic Precision sound.

I love the pickups on that bass. Very forward sounding. By that, I mean aggressive. Rolling to tone down tames it nicely as well.
I've got a green one coming tomorrow and being a fan of aggressive pickups, this makes me happy to read.

No longer have the Tony Franklin/Warmoth FrankenP from the original post. Got rid of the stupid pickup ring on the MIJ Traditional Original '50s and swapped out the Seymour Duncan Basslines Quarter Pounder for a Lindy Fralin Split '51 and it's fantastic. I also made a tug bar from some ebony and put a set of Labella's on it.
Replacing the PJ is an MIJ Traditional Original '60s in aged Sherwood Green with Pure Vintage '70s bridge and GHS Balanced Nickels. Oh and added the brown tort pickguard, was mint green before. Luckily the strap still matches!
They compliment one another beautifully sonically, both feel amazing, and are both very well made.

picked this one up last week with the black friday sale @ fender. sounds and plays fantastic. nut was cut a little weird though.. the grooves are super shallow because the actual height of the nut was cut too short i believe. this caused the stock rounds to buzz at the nut. debated returning or fixing the nut but once i swapped to my flatwound strings, the buzz went away and it plays great. haven't had a P in a while so i'm gonna keep it for a few months and see where we're at. so far i love it though and can't put it down.
Did it come with a bone nut? If not, might be a good excuse to upgrade.
