And a modified Nikki Sixx, including Lull pick ups and lots of chrome ( not stainless ) parts
It should be a fun stage bass!

Mark, I'm still kick'n myself for not buying the 8 string NR...................................it would have look so good on me ;)

TBIRD1958, can we get some more detailed pics. of the modded Nikki Sixx bird? esp. pics. of the mods. you made?

Here's a couple.............

Hipshot clovers for the headstock

Cavity routes

I cut some mahogany blocks to fill them in as the Lull pups are much shorter than the stock Gibson ones

HAHA Mark that Nikki is SO you! Haahah awesome!

Quick question though... did the routing discolor the nitro finish between the pups? It looks like a much lighter red than the rest of the stained body. What happened?!

Looks great though!

Have you contacted the Gibson Bass site? I'm sure they would be very interested to see this bass.

Just the other day I was thinking of getting a non-reverse built but as an 8- or a 12-string. The only thing I couldn't picture was the headstock. Now the problem is solved!:)

Did I mention the bass looks absolutely great? How's the sound?

Your comment makes me think that the previous owner was a dude by the name of Andy. Am I right? Just wondering. ;)
Nope that is not Andy's 8 string, I don't know if Andy still has his, the neck went bad at one point, I don't think his was a NR but it has been along time since I saw it. The one Mark bought was built for a fellow Tbird nut named Joe, I'll let Mark fill you in on the basses origins.

Yup!
Those are tuner condoms! The whole point here was to have this be more *my* bass and less Nikki Sixx's, while I like him and Motely Crue I'm not a crazy over the top fan. Once I bought this bass I thought it'd be a fun one to just make mine to play out, I'm pretty sure that I'm the only 6' 3" tall Drag Queen on Talkbass and wanted something to go with that on stage persona.......

There's nothing wrong with customization. You certainly did a fine job making the bass your own. :bassist:

At 6'3" you must double as a bouncer on your off nights.

If you REALLY want to go for a unique look, especially given your hight, you might want to augment your bass arsenal with another mahogany wonder, the Gibson SG bass or something along those lines. The contrast with the "Bird" migh prove riviting. Just a suggestion. :hyper:

Any way, that 8-string is to die for. Do you play out with it often, and if so, are you ever nervous that something might happen to it like a cymbal ding to the headstock? :bawl:

Also, any idea how much that little daring weighs?

Well I am an avowed sissy actually..................
Aside from a Thunderbird the heaviest thing I want to pick up is a drink. I really do love the EB/SG's but they're just too small for me, plus short scale and my playing style won't get along real well.
The 8 string is new to me and I haven't weighed it yet - it's heavy and wants to neck-dive some so I wear it lower and that helps a lot, it has a wonderful wide tone, think big angry piano..............It goes to it's first show 10/29 :)

TBird1958.... wow-> your band does "the cult".... !!!!!!!!!
memories of packed dance floors .. what was that harley song song.. "james dean rode a harley, that sob" ?
I wanna do "lucretia my reflection" by the SOM..
last weekend i was playing an outdoor wedding reception when i stepped on my own cord (stupid) and silenced my t-bird.. as i scrambled to replug i was thinking...damm this band sounds like an AM radio without...

This little club I play at all the time over here has an EB-0 that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE. But the short scale is so weird to get used to. I think given the choice, I would always pick up my T Bird.

Didn't some EB's come in long scale? But then the body is way too small... tragedy... that mud bucket of a bass is really fun to play.
