Show Me Your Thunderbird Bass

Here is my Epi T-bird. I installed a Hipshot replacement bridge and a new custom pick guard. The pickguard material is from Warmoth and is a vintage pearloid. It's much more golden in person, like old yellowed ivory. It was really cloudy today so the photos are a little dark and the color is kinda off. Oh yea, and I replaced the knobs.

it looks great man,i think you should get rid of the pups though.eventually you might wanna too,i got bored of those things like a year after i got it.they just lacked the tone i wanted,big time.

So THAT's why you wanted my black Hamer...so you could alternate a black one every other one for the photo? I like the gold hardware you added and that you put it back to stock w/o the toggle.

Here it is in it's former life with my Hamer 8-string TBird FBVIII (note the three toggles that go to three outputs...was Tom Petersson's.) Enjoy it!

I really dig the one on the right. I have a Hamer Explorer and I love it to death! It's my favorite bass I've ever owned or played.

I ran across this and have it on hold at a shop. It is supposedly an ESP and is in an ESP roadcase but missing the truss cover. the back/neck joint looks like my other ESP Tbird.

Is it a custom order or was this some production model at some point?

Looks very Gibson-ish but with a funky Japanese twist on the headstock.

Is it worth $1,000 US??

It's a good thing your sig doesn't have your location - I'd probably want to go buy that bass right now!
It does look like an ESP, they've done other 'Birds in the past too, tho as you say the rest of the parts do look very Gibson.
Great color too!

that headstock is soooo close to my MIK DillionBird ( minus the twist at the tip ), but the extended "points" towards the neckside of the head are very very similar.... let me find a pic and I'll edit it into this post...

and yes if I had the cash, I would just buy it for the uniqueness regardless of who made it :):):):):):)

Well....I got sent the ESP Custom Shop Certificate for the bass, so it's for real. Made in 2003. Definitely a one-off, apparently a close copy of a Gibson (except fr the tricked out headstock) because it has the 20 frets like a Gibson and not the 21 like a normal ESP....plus the 3-point bridge, Gibson control layout, etc.

Funny that it has the block inlays because I'd spec'd that out for my custom TBird I was thinking of having done.

...that "beak" cracks me up every time I look at it. Like something from a MIJ Transformers animation or some 1920s art deco building. I think I'll swipe this headstock idea to use when I do a custom of my own. I think it's a very clever way to get around Gibson's trademark...everyone else tried to change the 2D outline of the Thunderbird but this gets around it in the 3D :)

Hey Mike, sorry for the belated reply! I only had one 'Vette (guess the year ;)). I got the LP from a guy on eBay in 2002 I think.

I'm down to only a few birds these days, though I hope some day to get back the one on the right pictured below (it's in Germany now)... Man, there are some beautiful birds in this thread!

Love the combo of the custom colour with the block inlays.
