So what particular tool is needed for adjusting the truss rod on this thing? It doesn't look like it will accept the standard allen key...

My tech set it up for me and I believe he said it was a 7mm truss rod wrench. The only thing I do remember was that he said it was (a wrench) from a japanese guitar he had laying around.

If somebody knows for sure about the size for a BB1200S and/or a BB1500 please post or PM me.

Seems a bit high. Maybe closer to $700 or so.

The early ('84/'85) MIJ BB5000s are about $900. Those are amazing instruments - with tight string spacing.

I've been watching these for a while and the prices seem to be a function of the "I got to have it" factor. Last December I picked up my MIJ BB5000 for $500 (including shipping) on ebay. It had a non-original knob and maybe 7.5 on the finish, but otherwise in excellent playing condition. Same goes for the BB2000's & 3000's - sometimes several hundred between winning bids on different auctions. I know I went a little high on my MIJ BB3000 but I had been looking for a while and it was white!

Anyway, because they can show up erratically it's difficult to really shop, but you can see a range between $500-$900.

P.S. Also check the master list of used instruments in Guitar Center i.e. - you never know when one might show in one of their stores. This is currently on sale there.

My BB414 and my BBN4 fretless. I love the 414, it's my main workhorse. I haven't heard of the BB's before I bought it. Saw it in a music store, thought it looked interesting, plugged it ini and immediately fell in love with it.

Bought the N4 afterwards, I only use it when I get the fretless itch. It isn't as good as the 414 overall, but makes up for it with amazing comfort. Easy to play, very light and no neckdive at all.

I recently strung my BB1200S with flatwounds to see what it would be like... I can't believe how good it sounds!! I can get an old school thumpy flats tone, or I can use the active EQ to make them sound like really well-balanced bright roundwounds minus the string squeak and excessive clank. It's like the perfect match! I had my first band practice yesterday with the new strings and the bass sounded great, and the recording I made on my Zoom H2 reinforced this notion. I am a very happy creature!!

I've had flats on my BB3000S for a couple of months now and I'm really enjoying it. Like you say, it's bright enough to make it a bit edgy without clank and then it back that off and thump with authority.

Yamaha BBG5 with a four band Audere preamp. I likes it. Though I would probably trade straight up for a BB415 if somebody had one. I am getting more into passive P bass tones these days.
