Started off as a single soapbar rapture... I changed to pre to an aguilar obp-3, and the extra J pickups are from another Rapture (the pickups are for sale as I'll be installing Delanos in the near future).
I changed out all the chrome hardware to black, and I want to make a custom pickguard at some point.

I actually do like the Barts (both J's and the SB), but I kinda have the Bart J tone covered, and even though the J's are 'similar' to the Soapbar (yea, I know the J's and the SB are quite a bit different, but there is that inherent Bart tone present), I want to add more aggressive J's to the setup (Delano's with the huge pole pieces
) and really give the bass 2 completely different dimensions.I'm looking for $150 for the Barts (I have to double check, but I believe they are made to Pedulla's specs - I don't think they are off the shelf pickups; if they are, I will be adjusting that price). Not sure if anyone makes the G&L. I'm having an extra large and extra thick one made in clear pickguard material (from Axetreme Creations).

I'm planning to do this to my G&L M2500 Tribute. Ordered the pickup and routing template today.
I'm a little scared to route a naked area on a more expensive bass, but it should not be too hard - simple rectangle with no "ears".
My router bits don't have guide bushings, so I'll have to pick up a bit or two.
Since its active I will probably just do a 3 way switch between the far neck and middle pickup.

Oh hell .... just when I'd thought I'd gotten over the Big AL basses ... along YOU come and stick ~that~ needle in my arm again!
Yea, well you can just rot! You AND your simply excellent Big Al. I'l spend the next week listening to You Tube vids of Big Al basses again thanks to the likes of you!

Big Al is a bass that first struck me as butt ugly...like the Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum when they first came out...and eventually I ended up owning one.
Some things grow on you I guess. I'm sure it sounds wicked awesome and like all EB's has great build quality.
The Reflex is more appealing visually to me, but not sure about the ergonomics.
I think Ed Friedland hit it right on the noggin when he said about the Big Al ...
"In the 60s when we though about what ~The Future~ would look like, this was it."
Perfect description. Look at any of the furniture and props on the Jetsons cartoon and that same angular-plus-curves aesthetic was present. That Big Al bass would be right at home on any Jetsons episode. Even on some of the original Star Trek episodes, that angular-plus-curves look and feel was very prominent. Look at any of the pop-art from the 60's that wanted to portray "the future" .. such as the shape of restaraunt signs or hotel signs. It's because we were all looking towards what we all thought future civilization life would be like. Or even some of the campy sci-fi from the 50s and 60s (before 2001 A Space Odyssey came out and sci-fi got all realistic and practical on us). A semi-geometric "push-button" future world.
Also reminds me of early 60s cars that had tailfins and angular body lines ... big massive cruising-vessel type cars that attempted to grab that "The Future" look here in the US.
The Big Al nails that idea.
I like the Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece on this one. The body shape is right back there in the ~1960s future~ again as well.

However it does remind me of the Epiphone Thunderbird IV ~hell~ I just went through with Guitar Center. Holy cats that was a drama.
I started out looking at Big Al the same way. Eventually, I had to have one. I think it looks much better in person than in the pics. I like that fact that it doesn't look much like any other bass out here.
